I can hardly wait for him to name the states’ names… all fifty of them.

It didn’t say “what are their names”. It said to name them.

When I should have spent more time listening to my Chemistry teacher in high school, I was often drawing my own solar systems, naming the planets and figuring out the wormhole systems to get to and from the solar systems. Yeah, I should have probably paid more attention to the teacher. And no, I’ve never done normal very well.

When I took teacher training in the service I learned to NOT write test questions like that.

What are the names of the planets of our solar system? is better.

I got away with an answer like that on a test in college. Question: Can you explain ‘something’? Answer: ‘No’. Marked ‘Correct’. I still have the test booklet.

In 9th Grade Science (1957/58) I learned: “Mary’s Violet Eyes Made John Stay Up Nights Proposing”. Nowadays, of course, John doesn’t have to propose.

I give him credit for his original interpretation of the question, but at the moment there are only eight planets in our solar system.

The test told HIM to name them, those are the names he chose.
