Aha! Thank you for that, Wally. Even though Amesworth did talk about the decay of living Topsiders (and showed us what one looks like when she tore off her suit), I hadn’t made the connection to why they did it on purpose AND then put them in Eden and stuffed it into “another place” . Now I want to see the significance of the “chosen ones”. Some of the anthros in Eden were produced there by making Topsiders change; and others (Like Wally, Kirbee, Irving (?)) were abducted and brought there. Chic was born after the disaster, so only knows life as an anthro. I think Duffy is a little old to have been born after the disaster (since it happened about 8 years before the current story I think) and Duffy seems older than that. He didn’t seem to be a “main character” in the Cardoodles book (his own description) but he is in it. I think both those factors mean Duffy is also an abductee. Chic apparently didn’t appear in the comic—which may be why Duffy called him “nameless”.
Wally has good reason to be wary of the Topsiders. Over the years we’ve been able to see his interactions with Topsiders, and here are a few that show why he doesn’t like them. https://www.gocomics.com/endtown/2011/01/17 ;; https://www.gocomics.com/endtown/2011/10/19 ;; https://www.gocomics.com/endtown/2013/12/30
I pat myself on the back for my surmise, a few years ago, that it wasn’t a virus but a blending of alternate universes, the boundaries of which were weakened by Amesworth Radiation, and that anthros were the result of that blending of a human and a cartoon-based universe of their closest analogy in that universe. Other than that, I’ve been lost as to the big picture.
I can’t get past the feeling of deep unease over “Eye” being loose in the Topsider information tech….this bunch may have their Lab sort of sealed off from direct scrutiny, but no such seal is foolproof. And, “Eye” wants to merger all segments of the multiverse within “Eye” for “SALVATION”.
I too am waiting to see how “Eye” emerges in this Topsider community. I’m not sure the Topsiders know the entity has invaded their systems. Will they listen to Wally when (probably) all hell breaks loose?
Duffy looks as if he’s still clutching that eye talisman. Someone here suggested that he was also an abductee since he (or his doppelganger) also appears in the comic book. Very plausible. We know nothing about his parents or where he lived in Eden. He’s never mentioned them so far in the story. With altered memories he might not even realize the lack, just lived in Eden and scrounged the best he could. I think he’ll be much less of a bully after he gets through this adventure. He might even apologize to Chic for his prior attitude!
I love how some readers can understand this comic on a deep level!
I just have the brain space to like watching Wally, the personal dramas and the surface action.
Totally dislike the Marx character and the arrogance that surrounds “him” and the confusing roll he takes, and how Wally is treated by him. Just saying.

YES!!! We’re about to get the whole story!!

But…at last, it’s coming into focus…

Are you sure our Topsider doesn’t have the wrong finger on the left hand in the air?

“We have such sights to show you.” Reminiscent of Pin Head in Hell Raiser.

We’ve just been given the explanation for Eden. What is the one for Endtown? (and will we ever go back?)

About the only thing we really know is that this topsider hasn’t yet killed the mutants nor, at this moment in time, shows any inclination to do so.
But does that mean we can trust him?

Topsider: “Well, yeah, we lie all the time. You can bet on that.”

“We have such sights to show you.”, last time I heard that line, it was in Hellraiser, and it didn’t end good.

That topsider is performing a very Marx-like pose..

Probably she left out a part of the story. No good can come from that.

If this person is trying to use pop-culture quotes to put people at ease, they really need to choose better than Hellraiser!
