Yep, Amy Coney Barrett wants to turn back the clock — to the 1400’s and a version of Catholicism that burned Joan of Arc at the stake in France and ran the Inquisition in Spain.
Barrett belongs to “People of Praise,” a religious cult (an extremist fringe element within Catholicism, which also includes fundamentalists of other “Christian” denominations) that believes husbands should dictate how their wives vote. Within the group, she also attained the highest level available to women (leadership roles are strictly MEN ONLY): HANDMAID. This is not satire. This is not a play on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale.” She literally, proudly, anointed herself a HANDMAID.
No one who believes that a husband should dictate how his wife votes, or that a woman’s rights should be subject to the “authority” of her husband, should be in a position to make decisions about anyone else’s rights.
Barrett’s husband, Jesse Barrett, is also a high-profile lawyer (they met at Notre Dame Law School, a Catholic university). He was the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana.
If Ms Coney Barrett really believes the things she has said and written about women being subservient to their husbands, and letting their husbands dictate their votes, does that mean her husband will also dictate her Supreme Court rulings?
Does that really count as nominating a woman, or just another Trump lie?The issue is not that Amy Coney Barrett is a Catholic. No one cares that she is a Catholic. The Kennedys were Catholic. Nancy Pelosi is a devout, practicing Catholic. Several Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee are Catholic. Several Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee are Catholic.
For goddess’ sake, our nominee for president, Joe Biden, is a devout, practicing actual mainstream Catholic.
The same way some old sailing ships had a mermaid bowsprit, she’s the republican figurehead for their war on women, though she’ll probably be protected from the rules and regulations against female freedom.
A hundred year, at least. Minorities, LGTQ watch out. You’ve had the chance to vote democrat for years, but couldn’t be bothered. Now is the time to start.
Too late! Now, all we can hope for is that those who voted for her will be tainted and scorned for all time. That they carry the guilt of their decision to the grave.
The tiny glimmer of hope that I have is that, in the past, once sworn in, many justices have veered from the path they were expected to take. Roberts is the most recent example. As for Barrett, only time will tell.
I went to catholic school through 6th grade. One day during mass I asked my mother if she knew why we were kneeling at a certain point in the service. She didn’t know. Since I was an alter boy I knew what was happening in English and in Latin. On the way home from church I explained to her in English that I wouldn’t be attending church anymore nor would I be Catholic any longer. At that point I was healed. Hallelujah!
Religion – despite the Founding Fathers’ express wishes – will be the death of the Great Experiment. The irrational always lurks nearby in this strange and savage land !

Long live the founding days of the U.S. when women and minorities didn’t have the right to vote. Glad Amy is willing and eager to give them up.

If she had had even a grain of intellectual integrity, she would have refused to take part in this abomination of McConnell’s.

Amy Coney Barrett is the least-experienced Supreme Court nominee in 30 years-
Imagine if we hired someone to be Surgeon General that only had two years experience being a doctor.
She has all the experience they require.
