The GOP is about regressing us to where only the obscenely rich (white, “christian” males) matter. The proof that people aren’t rational is that they have managed to find some women, blacks, Hispanics who support them. Including ACB… though I think we should actually refer to her as her Master’s Handmaiden.

Pro life, but not the 220,000 who died of Covid.

Oh, and also not the fetuses of mistresses of Republican politicians.

Pro-birth not pro-LIFE.

It’s not pro-life, it’s forced birth.

“Pro-Life” where you force the woman to carry a fetus, yet deny her funding for access to prenatal care, checkups, nutrition, or even help pay for hospital costs for delivery. After you force her to give birth to a child she didn’t want or couldn’t take care of in the first place, you then abandon her (as if you ever supported her in the first place), and cut funding for food, housing, education and tell her that the child is her responsibility and if she doesn’t raise it “right” she will be put in jail.

“Pro-Life” indeed. You don’t give a crap about the mother, and none really for the child.

I do believe that any true “pro-life” position would have to address the issues you raise—prenatal care, hospital costs, social responsibility for costs (or adoption services)—all that. In fact, these would be good to have for all pregnancies, not just the unwanted ones. The fact that many “pro-life”ers don’t care about these things certainly does seem to demonstrate their hypocrisy.

The fact that a fetus’s life, under our current medical knowledge, is bound to a mother’s unwilling condition is, to my mind, a real conflict of rights and an ethical problem with no easy solution. Much better, to my mind, is prevention of the situation, though sex education, easily obtainable contraceptives, and the like. (Apocryphal advice for what to do when losing power in a storm on a lee shore: “Avoid this situation.”) It seems particularly ironic and hypocritical that many of the “pro-life” crowd are against these too.

The prostrifers just want to punish sex and dress it up for the back alleys. The Catholic hierarchy found it quite effective, and they can’t figure why most Catholics don’t think it’s their business to disobey Christ’s dictum to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. The prostrifers also don’t want to pay for their unenforceable laws and deliberately ignore the last time this country tried to legislate private morality with the Eighteenth Amendment.

I don’t really understand why people are complaining. They put these people in office, they knew what would happen. Want another result? Kick the current batch of scoundrels out of Congress and put in a different batch of scoundrels. But, I’m sure someone will complain about that too.

Watchdog group accuses Amy Coney Barrett of “unconscionable cruelty” in teen rape case. Barrett decided to overturn a $6.7M jury award to a teen allegedly raped in a jail run by ex-Sheriff David Clarke-

So if I read their decision correctly, the guard in question raped these women while on official duty for the county, on county property, but the county can’t be held liable because rape wasn’t in his job description.

Nice. Well, Amy Coney Barrett had her kids take piano lessons, so it’s all good.

Sexual harassment isn’t in job descriptions either, so does that mean she’d rule that companies/government organizations can’t be held liable for that?

Same position as their opinion on racism: it can’t be systemic because racism is a “personal choice”.

Same as their opinion on homosexuality: it can’t be a protected identity because it’s a “personal choice”.

Funny how suddenly things stop being a personal choice when a pregnant woman is involved.

The movement to install conservative justices is less about “religious freedoms”, “abortion” etc. – it is about limiting liability for businesses and limiting governments’ ability to regulate them.

I’m against abortion as I feel it’s cruel and murderous to a developing human being. But I would never impose my belief about that on a woman and her right to do as she sees fit with the contents of her own body. So, that makes me “pro choice,” even though it makes me cringe. My heart goes out to any woman who must deal with such a decision.

And yet, the mouth breathers continue to vote republican, though they stand to lose by doing so.

The only reason the Republicans want to get rid of The ACA is that Obama thought of it. And they hate Obama with a white hot burning hatred that defies all reason. They call it Obamacare just to get other people to hate it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they call it n….rcare in private.

The banner needs a small punctuation correction: “Pro-Life”

What ever happened to Birth Control ? You’d think we’d be hearing about doing something pro-active rather than using something afterwards like politics . . . . maybe go back into the past like Lindsey Graham and talk about Segregation and ask for campaign donations?

A more accurate sign on the elephant would be term would be “PRO-BIRTH.”

Congratulations to everyone here for such thoughtful comments, no matter which side of the fence you’re on. Civil discourse is a wonderful thing, and I’d love to see more of it. I’m so tired of people being attacked just because they don’t think like others might want them to think.

@kentmarx36. I have long wished that this line of reasoning would be brought to the front as people rant their opinions about abortion. They want NOTHING to do with those children once they are born. If the mother is on welfare they would have her sterilized by the ‘state’ because she is drawing on their tax dollars. One is Not required to have an abortion just because it’s made legal. That said, seriously, how many ‘frivolous’ abortions do you think happen? My last rant is the usual… WHERE DO YOU GET THE IDEA THAT YOU GET TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT SOMEONE ELSES BODY AND LIFE!

It’s got nothing to do with “pro-life”,,,, it’s only “pro-birth”, they could give a damn about quality of life, just pump out those new humans!

Trump ask Judge Barrett five questions. She said she did not know the answers and Trump said that’s ok. I don’t know them either.

Not pro-life, just pro-birth

I don’t know of anyone who is pro-abortion, they are pro-choice. Similarly, those who claim to be pro-life are actually just in favor of forced-birth. Once the baby is born they could care less what happens to it.

What’s the meaning of life ?. . . Procreation . . go forth and multiply isn’t just a math problem on a blackboard in grade school. In third grade I was concerned about memorizing the multiplication tables and didn’t know where babies came from. Farm kids did . . and shared the information, but some couldn’t multiply as good as I could.

The same group of people who think a mask mandate is government “over-reach” have no problem with the government mandating that all women carry all pregnancies to term. I guess that a little consistency is too much to ask?

Odd, “pro life”, guns and pro capital punishment and “lock ’em up” prison stuffing are some of the GOP’s best vote getters. Along with hate and fear.

The sign should read: Anti Abortion. Also Trump can’t leave the country because he has a date with New York prosecuters and hopefully, one of the fine New York prisons.

Well, you nailed it. The mindless hypocrisy of “Christians” and the Republican enablers. Once the baby is born, it’s on its own to kill or be killed. I understand Christain churches and particularly the evangelicals are losing membership. Their hypocrisy is driving people away, especially since they got into politics. Also, note that the Conservative Southern Baptist’s are the “Christians” that approved of slavery.

The Christian Taliban loves unwanted fetuses until they’re born. Then they’re on their own as unwanted children.
