Such a perfect metaphor — Ruth Bader Ginsburg smashing through glass ceilings and Amy Coney Barrett undoing all the progress for women (and others) achieved by Ginsburg. All her life, Ms Coney Barrett has walked through the doors opened by Justice Ginsburg, and now wants to close them to all the women who come after her. Typical conservative “I’ve got mine” philosophy.
Ms Coney Barrett belongs to “People of Praise,” a religious cult (an extremist fringe element that originated within ultra conservative Catholicism) that believes husbands should dictate how their wives vote. (They now also welcome fundamentalist conservatives of other denominations.)
No one who believes that husbands should dictate how a wife votes, or that a woman’s rights should be subject to the “authority” of her husband, should be in a position to make decisions about anyone else’s rights.
Her husband, Jesse Barrett, is also a high-profile lawyer (they met at Notre Dame Law School, a Catholic university). He was the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana.
If Ms Coney Barrett really believes the things she has said and written about women being subservient to their husbands, and letting their husbands dictate their votes, does that mean her husband will also dictate her Supreme Court rulings?
Does that really count as nominating a woman, or just another Trump lie?
Here’s a concept – you can be devout in many, many religions yet not attempt to shove your religion down the throat of millions of others. Well, apparently unless you’re a Repuslican thug (Oops! Sorry for being redundantly redundant there).
At the upcoming Senate hearing for her that will surely come, I hope those Democrats that participate throw what she said about Obama’s Supreme Court pick after the death of Scalia right back in her face and ask if she felt so strongly about it then, why is she even willing to take the vacant seat now? To very, very loosely paraphrase she went off on Obama for not picking an extreme conservative to replace a like-minded conservative.
She surely doesn’t believe in the separation of church and state. Her beliefs that could affect 300 million people are followed by 1700 citizens in this country.https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2020/09/28/people-of-praise-amy-coney-barrett/
The climate change deniers get a lot of flack.. perhaps.. considering overpopulation is a “real” problem, those that think having a ton of kids should be scorned as well. Public pressure stopped the wearing of furs.. Spray painting those that have more than half a dozen is probably going over the top.. but still.
I believe that every thing about this nomination STINKS! First, this took away some of the incredible moments in RBG’s life and career. that many of us were remembering while disrespecting RBG with this candidate. They could not wait as Justice Ginsburg wanted for the choice of a candidate until the next President is in place. Trump’s obvious lies – claiming that Nancy Pelosi, etc. had made up that lie. His cult followers believe every lie that comes out of his mouth. Being very honest – can anyone say that her remark to her granddaughter did NOT come from RBG because that is definitely have said. Even worse is offering RBG’s seat to this person who is so opposite to what Justice Ginsburg stood for and what she fought for. One of the worst tasteless things they have come up with is the Notarios ACB tee shirt. That is an admission that they could not come up with their own quote(s). They disrespect RBG with everything they have done and will continue to do.
I’m normally in complete agreement with Luckovich’s attitude, but I think he’s wrong on this one. First off, it was Sandra Day O’Connor, not Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who burst thru this particular glass ceiling.
Second, regardless of what anybody may think of Amy Coney Barrett’s politics or jurisprudence, I haven’t yet heard anybody say that she’s not authentically female, and having another woman on the Supreme Court is hardly a step backward in terms of representation. It’s still a challenge to get women into high positions, but it’s no longer impossible. And shouldn’t we, as feminists, be grateful that that isn’t the main obstacle to her serving in such a position, so we can focus instead on her actual, substantive merits or flaws?
Third, and only very tangentially, does anyone know off the top of their heads what the middle names of Roberts, Thomas, Breyer, Alito, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh are?

Pretty good cartoon, Mike.
However, Amy Coney Island should be installing the glass ceiling down, from above.
Having gotten through it herself, she’ll deny it to all other women if she can.

How many Amy Coney Barretts does it take to install a glass ceiling? None. She gets her husband to do it.

Ever notice how the women with whom Trump surrounds himself all have a similar cookie-cutter appearance about them?

Do the People of Praise require their women to wear the American equivalent of a burqa?

Right wingers are dragging the USA backward, they refuse to let America progress,
Witness how the republicans spread covid instead of doing what every expert told them to do. They are vicious and stupid racists.

She’s a poison pill, as is Clarence Thomas. Some Democrats just can’t vote against a black or a woman. The GOP gets that and plays them every time.
