Growing up among evangelicals, I always heard that, if we elected one of those Godless heathens president, God would punish the whole nation. Well, here we are; hurricanes lined up in the Atlantic like rush hour traffic, fires scorching the west coast, a disease ravishing the country, unrest and murder way up. I guess they were right after all.
Of course the wildfires and more potent hurricanes are a direct result of climate change which is an indirect result of people putting CFCs, CO₂ jet exhaust etc. into the atmosphere. Though I’m pretty sure Varvel wouldn’t talk about THAT. And the “riots”† are the direct result of police killing black (and brown) people far too often, without sufficient consequence and for far too long. Yeah, the pandemic was something that nobody could foresee… though it was particularly stupid of this administration to shut down the group of scientists who were working to prepare (and prevent) whatever the next big potential pandemic turned out to be.
† some of the protests do indeed turn into riots, though they’re a minority… and many of the rioters turn out, on closer examination, to NOT be part of the BLM movement, but simply people who love to riot, particularly if they can do it while blaming someone else.
