Shots didn’t hurt as much when I was in the military. A nurse told me the secret was to rub the spot REALLY HARD with the alcohol cotton swab and IMMEDIATELY do the injection. Civilian nurses spend so much time carefully disposing of the swab, that the numbing effect of the hard rubbing wears off by the time they get around to the injection. Same goes for phlebotomists. So much unnecessary pain.
Just relax, small prick. (As said by a former Dermatologist prior to the pre-surgery pain shot. He told me he once upset a guy by saying this before operating on his penis.)

This year’s flu shot was so much worse than any previous. I suspect the needle wasn’t sterile.
