Sermons like that might actually get me to attend sermons from time to time.

When I was a kid we had a pastor who would describe a Peanuts comic, and then build a whole sermon around it

Dont remember how many times he did it, but those were always my favorite sermons

I got this far… SEASON 3, EPISODE 7 DAY OF THE DOVE

The Enterprise is invaded by an alien life-form that transfers Klingons to the starship—-and arms the Klingons and the Enterprise crew with swords. Michael Ansara reprised his role as the Klingon Kodos in the episode “Blood Oath” of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.” Kang: Michael Ansara. Mara: Susan Howard. McCoy: DeForest Kelley. Chekov: Walter Koenig. Sulu: George Takei. Uhura: Nichelle Nichols. Kirk: William Shatner. Spock: Leonard Nimoy.

The Word of Kirk: “In the heart, in the head. I won’t stay dead.”

The Word of Kodos: “No doubt you will reassemble after I have hacked you to bits.”

That’s sadly believable. There aren’t many St. John Chrysostoms these days.

this episode would be Day of the Dove. The Klingons and the Federation end up having to be nice to each other

I thought this completely odd and random, but finding out the episode is “Day of the Dove” made me realize it would make a fine basis for a sermon.

Ah, ‘Day of the Dove’… where Federation and Klingons defeat and alien entity by NOT giving into the hatred of each other they normally feel. Good lesson for these days.

That season 3 episode 7 was “The Day of the Dove” and I think totally appropriate for a sermon.

Captain Kirk didn’t have a log book, the log was in the computer. Of course the computer was stupid because Kirk always had to tell it the date when he made an entry.

Parables often tease more listeners and hearers.

It was about as relevant as any Catholic sermon post Vatican II. Maybe more so.
