That first panel reminds me of a story. I belong to an amusement park enthusiasts group and at one “conference” we got a tour of S&S Power who build most of the big drop rides. They had a prototype of a possible ride that was nothing but a tall vertical tower with large holes in the side. Inside was a “ride vehicle” that was nothing but a cylinder. You got in the ride vehicle, were lifted to the top and dropped. There were no brakes! The cylinder was slowed to a stop by the compressed air in the tower. The holes inn the tower let the air escape at the proper rate to give a safe but exciting ride. From the outside, the dropping cylinder caused a series of loud pops as the air came out of the holes with puffs of condensation. PS: the ride never was produced.
