A question from an ignorant Yank. Are the Canadian income taxes as byzantine in their forms as the U.S. taxes? I do know that the Canadian Provinces have a bigger say in what goes on in Canada then the individual U.S. States do.

One thing I love about the tax season – being married to a CPA.

The closest my parents ever came to helping me was ONE time my mother actually sat next to me at the dining room table, looked at what I had to do, and then said, “Oh, you can do this.” She got up and went back to preparing dinner.

He’s a professional with a business in town. He’d pay a professional tax office to do his taxes if he was smart. No one needs to suffer about doing their taxes. There are even FREE places that will help you. We have a mobile van that comes every year, and parks in a convenient lot. Wait your turn and you get free advice and get them done. There are tax booths set up in some stores, like Walmart. They will do them. There are places to call for advice, and online help, also. Good old USA.

I thought retirement would make taxes simpler. Silly man! In 2018 we had two sources of income to report; in 2019 I had five! This year and hereafter there will be four.

I still hate home work. I also don’t care for working from home. When I am at home I am not a school, or at work, and I don’t want to do their assignments from my kitchen table(or where ever). Home is for reading comics taking naps.

Taxes have never been a particular problem for me. The only time I ever hired a professional was when my father passed away and I used his accountant to finish up the estate taxes.

I remember this one from MAD, in particular Dave Berg’s “The Lighter Side of..”

Boy: “Daddy, I need help with…”

Dad: “Please don’t bother me right now, I am working on my income tax.”

    Boy: “What is income tax?”

Dad: “Every year, I have to give the government part of the money I make. If I do not pay, then I am subject to fines or being thrown in jail.”

Boy: “Whoa! Is that some punishment, like in school when I do something bad?”

Dad: “No, this is a punishment for doing good!
