The person in the background calling the shots at this point is Pompeo. He seems to have been the one pushing for the assassinations. both the one accomplished and the one that failed. All the usual evaluations and preparations for such operations that normally would be involved were never done, just a cabal meeting in Mar-a-Lago to set action in motion to “show those Iranians”. Thing is, they don’t seem to have shown those Iranians anything useful, but they sure showed the rest of the world what the US has become.
