Trump is NOT smart enough to play chess, or any other game that takes forethought. He certainly is not smart enough to plan a move, much less a follow up.
Would that be the move where there are suddenly armed “volunteers” bombing US embassies in other nations? The one where poison gasses show up at various public places? Or the pipe dream where they all just back down and become angles of peace and light?
The only way the Rump could ‘win’ at chess is to blow up the board. I doubt he has thought through the consequences of his action and the his responses to the upcoming retaliations.
I would be more concerned about a cyber attack targeting utilities… of course, that could play into the GOP’s hands, allowing them to declare martial law and indefinitely postpone the elections.
He finally got around to testing out his boom boom toys. I’m surprised he took this long, heaven help us. Next up: the nukes he’s been dying to take out for a test drive.
Lisa – Iran (Persia) literally INVENTED the game of chess. The move checkmate comes from Persian “Shahk Maht” which basically means “I’ve killed your king”.
The Iranian rulers have been playing this type of politics since before Alexander the Great. Trump is certainly not fit to be playing it with the Iranians.
They’re playing chess, he’s chewing on his checkers.
You do realize that “his move” will result in an attack on Americans right? Quite possibly resulting in death. This isn’t a bloody game of chess, the consequences of “his move” will be brutal not just for the targets, but anyone caught in the crossfire.
That first move was not the most prudent. Our relationship with Iraq may also be affected. The lack of coordination with Iraq was insulting as though there were of no concern to the resident.
The nuclear agreement was working. Tiny pulled out to spite the memory of Obama and now he’s going to start another endless war. Somebody should make Jarvanka, Barron and Melanoma walk point on the battlefield when the time comes.
Chess was introduced to Persia from India and became a part of the princely or courtly education of Persian nobility. In Sassanid Persia around 600 the name became chatrang, which subsequently evolved to shatranj, due to Arab Muslims’ lack of ch and ng native sounds, and the rules were developed further.
This is a hilariously apt cartoon. I don’t think Lisa intended to show Trump as colossally unfit to even play a board game, let alone preside over the world’s most powerful country; but, that is how I see it.
Sorry, smart bettors would move the bombed out hole much closer to the Weasel’s side of the board. You’d think that at least some of the Republicans would remember the outcomes of previous military adventures started by them in the Middle East. Hard to creditably blame the Democrats for previous and possibly current bad military decisions there.
Followed by Iran smiling through the cloud of another bombing saying “your move”. Followed by us bombing another Iranian target or killing Iranians and saying “your move”. Followed by Iran… Well, you get it. Revenge begets revenge begets revenge and so forth.
I don’t pretend expertise on the Middle East and its peoples. Here’s what I do know: There is a protracted Muslim civil war in progress with no identifiable ‘Good Guys’, and lots of ancient blood feuds playing out – we are well advised to stay out of it; Persians (Iranians) and Arabs don’t like each other; neither like the Turks. The Iranians have been pi—ing in our face for 40 years and telling us it’s raining while yelling at us to die; I don’t know why they’ve doggedly maintained implacable hatred for us for decades on end, but there it is. They hate the Israelis as well. We will continue trying to choke them to death, while they will continue – indeed step up – efforts to bite, and kick, and scratch, us whenever they feel they can get away with it, while avoiding taking us on in an all out fight. Every now and then their efforts to hurt us will be painful enough that we will respond with a powerful and painful blow. That will be the nature of our war with the Iranians, kind of an asymmetrical blend of a cold war and a hot one for the foreseeable future.
Yes, a really brilliant (NOT!) move. No love lost here on the guy killed, but the manner of killing was just stupid… the sort of thing one should expect from someone like Trump. Loud and attention-drawing.
Frankly, it would have served better to have arranged for a powerful “IED” to have taken this guy out. A deniable action in a country with a lot of such actions. And so appropriate for that guy.
Of course, Trump would have blown any cover on the operation by taking credit for it, but then that could have been discounted as the usual Trump lying to make himself look good.
Hello, intelligent posters! I’ve been engaged in a back and fourth with a poster who calls himself ‘Andylit’. I would like to get some input on his opinions about Trump’s impeachment. They are as follows:
Andylit’s Posts
Explain to me how what he did is extortion, or bribery, or a QPQ if one of the parties is unaware there is anything on the table.Ukraine officials were NOT AWARE the aid package was on hold until late August when they read it in the papers.Come on Mick, lay it out. No, don’t claim Ukraine knew. With the exception of a single former low level Ukraine staffer, EVERYONE on both sides of the equation have stated, many under oath, that Ukraine DID NOT KNOW.How do I bribe you if I don’t make an offer. How can I extort you if I don’t tell you its happening.Go ahead, fester for a while. Cogitate and see if you can come up with a scenario that works if Ukraine is unaware of the hold.
I tried to explain to him that, even if the victim is unaware that he’s being scammed, it’s still a crime. he claims that that’s not the case. Have the laws changed?
“Iraq’s parliament, meeting for an emergency session, voted on Sunday to expel the thousands of American troops stationed in the country, the latest response to a United States drone strike that killed the influential Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
The vote still needs the approval of the Iraqi government, which has permitted a U.S. presence in the country to help combat the Islamic State.
Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi told parliament that Iraq was grateful for the assistance the U.S. has provided in fighting ISIS, but he is now recommending that the 5,200 American troops stationed there permanently leave the country."
This is why you don’t go around assassinating political leaders (and host country military leaders) in other sovereign countries without their permission first. He may have “won” the action, but gave Iran a greater, welcomed, presence in Iraq, It was one of the reasons other countries, including Israel and earlier US presidents didn’t take out Soleimani. The consequences far outweighed the benefits, but Trump doesn’t think. He needed a diversion from his impeachment and reelection problem.
Folks, we have another, bigger, problem facing us now. With Quick-Draw-McGraw announcing his plans to commit war crimes out of hand if anybody crosses him, we find ourselves no longer served by a functioning government of four independent parts with which to rein him in. The billionaires, with the help of earlier SCOTUS rulings, have captured the WH (with its exclusive law enforcement and military powers), the Senate (with its ability to block any legislation), and the Court (to block any attempts by the states to enact change) and combined them into a single power block with the capability of legally harassing individual members of the House (who has the purse strings) into submission. If the 1%rs manage to suppress enough media coverage and the Republicans suppress enough of the popular vote…
