Cats just aren’t as sensitive to weather as we are.

If you couldn’t flush your toilet, you’d go outside too, Janis!

Our mini-chihuahua knew when it was too cold and wouldn’t move off her blanket if we said wanna go outside? We had a piddle pad in the laundry room

Unless closely supervised or in a secure enclosure, cats are best considered indoor pets in most locations.

Most of my cats have hated snow. During the summer and fall I would let them out into my backyard for supervised outdoor time. Then the first snowfall of the season would hit They would pester me to go out. I’d let them out, but once they touched the snow they’d turn around and come back inside for the winter. Some would recognize the snow by looking outside through the window, others needed the reminder. Sassy has no interest in going outside. She’s quite content being indoors.

I had one cat who didn’t mind the snow and cold at all. He’d follow me around the yard as I filled bird feeders, staying in my footsteps. He’d play in it in areas where it wasn’t too deep. By the time we were ready to go inside he’d have little snowballs attached to him. He didn’t seem to mind them too much! He also didn’t mind the rain. He had fur that seemed to shed the water off. Yeah, I miss him!

You never let indoor animals out. That can shorten their lives.

My cats are indoor only for a few reasons. It’s healthier and safer. If you live in a place that has wild or feral animals around why would you take a chance on you pet being injured or killed. Mine are perfectly happy being indoor cats. Their litter boxes are cleaned daily, it’s warm (or cool) depending on outside temps. They have warm beds to sleep in and plenty of food and water. They have each other for company along with the dog and me. Also, my apartment complex has a strict rule that ALL pets are to be on a leash when outside including cats. I have no problem with that.

if you have a cat as a pet, it should not be outdoors. keep your cats inside. they should not be allowed to wander outside. it’s against the law in most communities.
