So that’s why it’s a (officially) two party system. More than two would be too much for American establishment media’s “overtaxed brains”. They’d rather have us believe that than the real reason.
Is it really surprising, Ted? Inanimate products aren’t especially mutable, so their actual virtues and drawbacks are at least potentially comparable. Not so with politicians, Obama being an especially odious, but far from the only, example.
Your point being that we have to choose one flavor of soda within the next 14 months and then nobody will be able to drink anything else for four years. Got it.
For phones, there’s Apple or Google based; for computers, there’s Apple for Microsoft based systems. Some have only one choice for a cable/ISP company. Consolidations seem to affect large swaths the products/services that we consume. We don’t seem to have people with the charisma of Eisenhower or Kennedy in the running in recent elections. Only 2 party brands with assorted sizes shapes genders and colors.
Not so sure all those commercial products don’t cause a significant amount of anxiety. Which brand of toilet paper wipes the best.. which pad absorbs.. and does not show.. 4 out of 5 doctors want me to use this.. but is that 5th doctor really a fool?
If Trump wasn’t perceived as beatable and if he was even a little less repulsive there wouldn’t be so many Democrats thinking they can beat him. I think I can beat him-with a stick.
Y’all do realize the massive Republican field in 2016 probably made Trump possible by his being able to garner a plurality but not a majority during the primaries.
I agree Ted, but the choice of soft drinks, socks, or even a car is of little consequence compared to our next president. Personally I love that there are lots of candidates on the Democratic side. Look at the efforts to cancel primaries and caucuses in support of the republican’s anointed one.
That’s very interesting. It makes me wonder if perhaps choosing a future president is more important than soft drinks or socks. But then, there are the cars, and what is more important than a car? Either way, I think holding primary elections will thin the herd and none are any good anyways from what I read around here.
I know not what others may do, but I spend a bit (sometimes quite a bit) of time hunting for / deciding what to buy and then I stick with it until someone comes along and either convinces me there’s a better option (hard) or stops manufacturing the item/brand I like… or revises it until it’s sh*tty (all too common). Tilley hat. LLBean jeans. Prius (they’re working at the second option on this one: I may never buy another). Warren (so far).

Have people already forgotten how much it sucked not to have ANY CHOICE AT ALL in 2016?

Same idea with political parties. Why else would the loudly self declared Democratic Socialist be running for the Democratic party’s nomination?

Most will drop out before Iowa votes, New Hampshire will be lucky to have a choice between two, the rest of us are screwed.

Let the talking heads complain. We should cherish freedom of choice, and defend our freedom to the death.
The alternative is no choice at all, like in Russia.

Right, drop out Dems! That way we can cast out votes for “you know who”.

Imagine ranked choice voting, with no party-specific primaries.

I’m OK with plenty of choices. One problem.
The longer this goes on, the more superdelegates Biden picks up. Then we end up nominating another loser who voted yes for the Iraq War.
Just like Kerry. Just like Hillary.
