I’ve found that in a lot of people that when you get older you get wiser.

Stalling the answer never got me anywhere… good.

If you can’t tell me what the favour is before asking me to agree to do it, I refuse on principle.

Earl’s not gonna buy a pig in a poke. (How long has it been since you thought about where that phrase comes from?)

Earl’s answer is much more diplomatic than saying no, but has the same effect.

Always hear what the favor is first before agreeing to anything!

You would think by now Opal would know that Earl thinks of no one but himself and firmly believes the world is there to serve him.

I always answer that question with “I don’t know, what is it?”

My answer would always be: “If I am able to…”

Wrong!!!——The correct answer is “yes dear”

Wife asking husband for a “favor” could mean that a criticism is impending.

Unrelated…do we ever know what Earl’s job was?

Providing immediate answers to immediate questions gets him into immediate trouble.
