Well, the memory, and the fantasy, is almost always better than the reality. Avoid reunions or face the reality that as you make those mental adjustments for the people you knew, they are looking back at you the same way.
At my HS class reunions, all the name badges have yearbook pictures on them of what the wearer looked like from back when we ran into them daily. Good thing, too, because most of them would otherwise be unrecognizable.
Two of my fellow graduates from high school got married last month, after meeting up again at one of the reunions and keeping in touch for another 30 or 40 years. I guess they thought, “Hey, we’re closing in on 70, better do it now while we can still walk down the aisle unassisted.”
