A twofer. Payne shows that he doesn’t understand basic science, because the way electric power is generated has exactly nothing to do with the reliability of the delivery system. And he shows that he doesn’t know what DeBlasio looks like and is too lazy to find a photo reference. (Or else he thinks Ted Cruz is mayor of NYC.)
Why are all the Trumptards so proud of being compete and utter morons?
Yeah, I know, that question answers itself.
“The blackout that plunged a swath of Manhattan in darkness on Saturday evening started with a faulty cable on the Upper West Side, utility officials said Monday.
Consolidated Edison Inc. said in a statement that the relay protection system that is supposed to isolate faulty cables failed to shut down a 13,000-volt cable on West 64th Street. Power networks covering 42 blocks of the city then went down.
After “analyzing the large volumes of data,” the utility said it had “identified the issues with the relay protection system."
The underground cabling is more immune to storm damage but take takes longer to repair when there are malfunctions. One by one the finite fossil fuels are becoming economically unfeasible compared to inexhaustible sources (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, tidal, etc) with sufficient storage, and more and more we see how vulnerable the grid is versus distributed power systems.
Seriously.. that is what it would take to appreciably reduce the carbon footprint.. and in more cities and for longer duration.. long enough so that the gas in all those commuter cars ran out and could not be refueled. But.. that ain’t ever going to happen so learn to live with that extra CO2
Hottest June globally on record. Hottest July proceeding toward record. Flooding in the midwest breadbasket, wildfires in Alaska and Siberia (with release of methane from melting permafrost), drought on the east side of India and flooding on the west, drought in Central America and parts of the Mideast, and increasingly rapid melt from the Antarctic glaciers, but for Payne, it’s all a “What, me worry?”
Wow. There’s a small grain of truth here. Transitions in power generation are one more challenge for our antiquated power grids. I wonder if there is a great nation somewhere that could marshall the technical and financial resources to fix the problem.
I live in a totally red state and we have power blackouts all the time. It’s technology, not politics. This doesn’t even make sense, unless you are auditioning for a spot on Fox & Fiends.
Payne is almost always lame, but asserting that DeBlasio is promoting blackouts as part of his clean-energy agenda goes beyond where anybody who can read or think could possibly go.
“Power networks covering 42 blocks of the city then went down.”
42 blocks is only a tiny dot in the whole of New York City. I’ve lived through “blackouts” as big as that when I lived there, and they were hardly noticed.
I was also there during the second big Northeast blackout, which affected far more than just New York City. I was out on a pier and got to see the blackness flow down both sides of the East River like a wave of water. People took it in stride, expecting that eventually it would be fixed…which it was, though I don’t remember how long that took. Neither I nor anyone I met treated it as a crisis.
With no traffic lights, neighborhood folks came out to direct traffic. I took a bus to my “local” pub, where the bartender had a candle lighting the old mechanical cash register and a flashlight that he loaned to women going to the restroom. It was Irish music night, and the jam session went on in the dark just the same as it always did when the room was lighted.
And unlike Henry Payne, nobody back then tried to turn it into political fodder.

Talk about a load of disinformation. If more buildings has solar panels and battery storage, they are less dependent on the grid if it goes down.

Ain’t enough solar panels on God’s “Green” Earth to power NYC for 10 minutes.

Henry Payne’s Cartoon Ingredients
Take one democratic candidate polling at less than 2%.
Add one part out-of-context statement.
Add something something climate change.
Combine with recent news item that has nothing to do with any of the above.
Marinate in ignorance, then simmer over low heat until deadline occurs.

So, if we didn’t have carbon emissions controls, the power would NEVER go out in NYC?

The whole point of building solar panels is to still have power when we stop burning fossil fuels!

Little known fact, there a big switch in De Blasio’s office that’s labeled “To black out NY, just pull down”.
