Well, Snoopy could have gone the Rhett Butler route. After she says: “I love you”, the hero would say “Frankly, I don’t give a *&^%!”

I read an Norwegian translation of this strip where the last line is a bit more neutral: “The hero is a scientist!”

I think Petula Clark covered this ground with a little more panache.
