Ironically, today in the state that everyone constantly loves to denigrate and hate (Florida), a woman driving on a major highway saw a toddler wearing only a filthy diaper who was walking unsteadily along the road, almost falling into the road. She pulled over, called ‘911’ for help, and then invited the tot into her car for safety. She discovered that he was covered with mosquito bites while she was waiting for the police.
The child is now in the custody of the state’s child protective services (hopefully doing better than the kids of those who entered the US illegally are doing right now in illegal custody, denied soap, food or a place to sleep). The parents were discovered in a nearby unlocked mobile home, unconscious after ingesting many mind and body altering substances. The parents have been jailed.
To the best of my knowledge, no one sat watching all this with a big tub of popcorn. So at least one child didn’t die due to neglect today in the real world.
