I have often marveled at how daintily cats can alight. (I don’t know that I’ve ever used the word “alight” before.)

Most cats are very good at jumping up on things. It’s when they start aging they have problems with it.

Show a bit more enthusiasm, Arlo. That’s a good jump and a soft landing for a cat of Luwig’s age.

As one commenter pointed out earlier, as the years roll on, we all find it a bit harder to jump three times our own height, from standing.

My late feline friend wasn’t aware of that trick, he’d knocked over quite some furniture in his time. Rest in peace, you will know how to gently float by now.

My mom’s cat can jump up onto a table full of glassware/bottles without knocking over any of them and walk all around without hardly touching them. The first time he did this, we almost had a heart attack! (stuff was on display for a yard sale, or something.) He was a large, long bodied, long legged, short hair. Weighed like 12-15 lbs, but nimble as all get out. He is about 8 now, I think, but still nimble. When he was much younger (about a year old), he could jump from a seated position and touch the TOP of our front door frame (about 7 ft). It was amazing to watch. Not so much any more :o).

I have a neighbor cat that owns the yards around his house. He’s older than dirt for as long as I have seen him (15 plus years or more). Other animals bring their food to him. He is the king in his land or jungle if you want to call it.
