Missing frame, where Janis tells Arlo to take a hike.

Turn about is fair play in our book, too. Many a time, my wife has wreaked her justified revenge upon me.

By the way, today is our 44th anniversary. It doesn’t seem possible. And I worry about how few we have left.

At least it looks like Arlo is not being ‘totally’ stupid, he did bring coffee. Even my granddaughter, at 15 months, knew not to wake Nanny without coffee.

My wife is on sabbatical and she’s sleeping 11 pm to 9 am, so I have four hours by myself every morning. Been retired 15 years, still wake up at 5 am.

This is us — except I’d never shame my hubby into staying up to watch TV, and he wouldn’t do it anyway. But all the same…he wakes me up early every day. yawn Someday I’ll just have to miss that last hour of TV.

Oooo, a sighting of the elusive Morning Grouch. Careful Arlo, they are easily irritated until sated with warm mugs of specially prepared liquid offerings…

45 years, the first 43 we knew our schedules so no problem, but since retiring found that our natural cirdadian rhythms are coming back, just takes a little understanding and some compromsing.

Razzing a sleeping person while drinking your coffee is mean. Razzing a sleeping person while handing them their coffee shows loving concern and humor.

Not a good idea to anger the better half over being childish.

No one yet has explained the punchline. I see the idea — he is getting back at her. But why “it seems like the same thing to me?”

The punchline is in our imagination. What and how did Janis inform him that it wasn’t the same thing. JJ has often used this type of technique to engage the reader.

About to hit our 40th. We get no credit for the 2 years dating, 4 years engaged before the wedding, so we have been together 46 years – and knew each other a year before that.

We have mostly agreed about things in our life and when we haven’t – it always seems to work out. On paper it should not have worked. Our politics were opposite when we met. Over the decades we met in the middle, passed each other to the opposite side, change back and met in the middle and are both now on the same side. We are different religions. We grew up in houses with different philosophies about the place of women and men in marriage and the world. Out of all this the biggest problems to conquer were -His family had hand soap at the kitchen sink and mine just used the dish soap – so, we have a bar of hand soap (rarely used) at the kitchen sink. His family slept with top sheet and tucked in blanket, mine just had a quilt tossed over the bed – solution was to try blanket and top sheet, then when we needed to replace try a quilt. The quilt won out for the third and later bed replacements until the bed bugs came and the quilt cannot be heated thoroughly enough so we went back to blanket and sheet.
