Those who dismiss this passionate, articulate “wise Latina” seem to not understand that she graduated cum laude with degrees in international relations and economics. She completed college despite the death of her father while she was attending. She is the first of her family to get a college degree.
She actually knows her stuff.
Those who underestimate this amazing woman do so at their peril. She is a future powerhouse in the Democratic Party.
The older generation want to talk about spending money on bigger guns, blowing stuff up, and killing people. The younger generation want to talk about spending money on health care, education, and the environment. So who’s crazy?
She’s got shot down so many times for her unruly behavior, as was the other two newly elected women! If they think they’ll break the mold of what’s been in place for decades, they have another thought coming…..they need to settle down and pay their dues like the rest! Next thing we know, they’ll be taking bribe money just like the rest of congress! If you’re not an idiot going in, you certainly will be coming out….
Perhaps listening to her instead of knee jerk criticism and (gasp) a little guidance would make your life easier you old woman. You, of all people, should know better
@Diamond Lil • So we gonna fall for the Republican’s “divide & conquer” propaganda again? Why do you think Stone, Assange & the Russians hacked the DNC?
Speaker Pelosi is every bit as progressive as Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. Families fuss with one another, political kindred souls do too. Our fight is with the Republicans — not each other. Or we can replay the 2016 election all over again. Chose wisely.
So many of the conservative cartoonists are disappointing when commenting on politics. Same old fairy tales recycled over and over while their beloved prez. runs this nation into the ground.
I am looking for younger people to take on leadership in both parties. Some of what I liked about Pres. Obama was he was younger, like John Kennedy, smart, had ideas and ethics.
I’ve never cared for Nancy, but I have to say she’s shown remarkable patience and maturity lately while wrangling both her own party’s fever swamp fringe AND Trump’s bombastic rantings.
America needs younger people to vote. Sorry but Trump (72), McConnell (77), Pelosi (81), and a score of others need to get out of the way. Technology and the world are moving way to fast. As someone born in 1961 I say it is time for a new generation to take over. They are more accepting of minorities, want to actually make real change. Guys like Ramirez don’t want to see change, hell the GOP wants to keep going backwards. Sad!
Before y’all put AOC’s positions down as too radical, here is a link of bipartisan attempts made to deal with climate change 30+ years ago. The problem has only gotten more severe since then, and I think you can put that down to the toxic partisanship form Gingrich and Co. in the early 1990’s:
“It was not so long ago that a young congresswoman proposed major climate legislation that would transform the national energy system and, with it, the economy. Speaking on the floor of the House, she lamented the tens of billions of dollars in federal handouts to the fossil fuel industry and the government’s failure to adopt its own scientists’ recommendations. She warned of the “very high risk of irreversible and catastrophic impact looming on the horizon” if the United States failed to act.
“We have the facts,” she said. “The crisis is here. The time to move from rhetoric into action is also here.”
The congresswoman was Claudine Schneider, a Republican from Rhode Island. The bill was the Global Warming Prevention Act of 1988."
What’s unrealistic is thinking that we can continue with business as usual. The sooner we make changes the less disruptive the changes will be. If we wait another decade, we will really be in trouble, and the changes will hurt much more.
Ah, no one is forgiven for being articulate, razor sharp, tough, good looking, and original. And I urge everyone, progressive and the reverse, to notice that “conservatives” have taken to using “socialism” as a sort of universal solvent to wash away anything they disapprove of (if they even understand it well enough to deserve an opinion). It’s nothing new. Some 40 years ago I heard a surprising interview with a school district supervisor in some good-sized southern city (I think in NCarolina) who was involved in some sort of policy dispute with the district P.T.A. (of all things). He was pressed by the interviewer to say what it was about the P.T.A.’s involvement that he objected to, since it seemed like exactly the sort of issue that the P.T.A. had a “facially” reasonable interest in. He lowered his voice and, like someone saying a dirty word in the presence of clergy, muttered “Socialism!”
Ramirez wants us to think that the Green Deal that AOC et al are pushing is as worthless as a yelling parrot. He is, of course, just shilling for the Gross Ol’ Perverts and the 1% who for reasons that totally elude me think that the environment will fix itself if we just keep abusing it.
Michael, is that all you have? Nothing about content? The green new deal is a paper containing clear and serious items. This program is more or less the actuall policy of several EU countries (like, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany). The US is, regarding social security and medicare for everybody, closer to third world countries than to EU countries. And AOC talks about a modern, decent social security system and an energy turnaround. But the Reps are stuck with Manchester capitalistic ideas and call everything else “socialism” because they have no convincing arguments against it.

She makes more sense than anything coming out of Bonespurs. (Maybe because she can actually read and speak in complete sentences?)

In 2015 Trump lied that he would be the only president not to cut Medicaid and Social Security and Medicare.
In 2019 Trumpublicans cut Social Security by 25 billion
Cut Medicare by 845 billion and Medicaid by 1.5 trillion
so billionaires, oligarchs and corporations could have even larger tax cuts.
