Forgot to put the black mask over the eyes. It keeps you from becoming claustrophobic. They didn’t tell me that until after they gave me a Valium before hand.

I’ve had exactly one. No problem with feeling claustrophobic, but keeping as still as they wanted was very difficult.

And in the end, it revealed that yes, there was a problem, and no, there wasn’t much they could do about it.

My last one was not an Open machine, so I went on many mind-trips for the duration. I dug into my memory warehouse and re-visited old venues and said memorized phrases, e.g., Air Force Airman’s Creed, Gettysburg Address, Prayers, Song Lyrics, Names or WI counties….

As someone who once fell asleep in a torpedo tube, I have no problems with MRIs…well maybe the fact that the clicking of the machine reminds me of a MaDeuce cycling on an empty chamber…

I’ve had a bunch of them, all on my brain. Needless to say, they found nothing.

Not unlike the ultimate claustrophobia … the coffin.

So, there’s that to look forward to.

I had one for my knee and it was seriously uncomfortable staying still. I spent the whole time yelling Mama Mia, Papa Mia. I’m not Italian, but the words seemed to keep my mind off the pain. I don’t know if they couldn’t hear me over the sound of the machine, or if it didn’t matter as long as I didn’t move my knee, but they never said I needed to keep quiet.

The first one I had was in one of one of the machine gun MRIs. This was before sleep apnea was diagnosed. Not only did I provide a loud counterpoint to the noise, the techs were ticked off that they had to redo the scan – I was moving too much. And their schedule for that day was full…… 8^)

Just putting him in a closet would had the same results and saved a lot of money.

I discovered that instantly and said “I can’t do this.” Those things work fast!
