Get three sizes only: small, medium and large and make sure they are all the same. It’s kind of like socks: get all of one kind and color and any two you pull will be a pair.
My wife will throw out the lid but keep the container. So after searching for 5 minutes, I just put plastic wrap over it. Should have done that in the first place.

We keep all our lids in a small box beside the containers, sorted by size.
