I have a sibling that behaves just this way. She always wants others to take the blame for her failures.

Calvin, the broken-hearted little boy, finally comes through in the last panel, and I want to give him a hug!

Hobbes, time to Tiger up and take the blame for Calvin. A true friend would do that.

Sooooooooo true to life, right here. Calvin screwed up, and it’s the fault of the person next to him. It HAS to be. He’s just desperately searching for a way for it to be true.

If I were Hobbes I’d tell him, “Yes Calvin; just this one time. Now we can move on and find a way to fix this.”

this is quite possibly the most grown up Calvin ever was.

Calvin taking responsibility for his actions? I’m impressed.

I guess this means he’ll tell Dad, “Hobbs broke it,” not “I broke it.” It would be too grown-up to own up, even though Dad knows exactly what happened.

Interesting to see the differing viewpoints of the folks posting about this. Sympathy, anger, understanding, unforgiveness, humor, pathos,….

The rendering of Calvin’s anguished and confused face in the second panel is beyond compare. When I think of Calvin and Hobbes this is one of the arcs that usually comes to mind.

The mom in me wants to give him a big hug … and then try to fix the stupid, cheap beanie. He’s only going to be a little boy for a short while. Not everything needs to be a hard lesson. Sometimes a loving lesson is even better.

I wonder how close this Calvin is to almost everyone who reads it is.

Take it to your Dad. You might have to endure a life lesson or two, but he should be able to get it together.

Once again I have to marvel at the artistic skill of Watterson. The change of emotion from panel to panel is amazing (especially panel 2 and 3).

Sorry Calvin not the best way to handle it.
