It’s “Whom are you spending . . . ?” Parker & Hart know better, but, like most Americans, they’re reluctant to use correct English lest the public deem them persnickety. The non-theological paraphrase of Luke 8: 16-18 is that if you’re blessed with intelligence and education, i.e., knowledge, share it. Only fools will resent such an act of love toward mankind.

Reminds me of Jack Benny who used to go down to his vault to visit his money. The old gentleman who was the guard hadn’t been above ground since the Civil War, and Benny would tell him about all the amazing new things up there.

Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it buys the things which lead to happiness.

(Or so I hear.)
