How about “what I DIDN’T have to do this summer”?

At least it didn’t include binge-watching, due to the weather that kept everyone indoors.

So, Frazz told the kids to be honest?

Honesty may be the best policy, but it isn’t always exciting or even interesting to others.

Well, they say it’s better to hurt someone with the truth than flatter them with a lie

12% was about right for me, too. I was a voracious reader, but if it was assigned I didn’t want to do it.

We didn’t have assigned summer reading in public school, though. That was Catholic school. Do they assign summer reading in public school now?

They still teach the cryptic art of cursive writing?

This year my daughter could write about the guys wearing only tie dyed thongs she saw at the music festival.

If I were a teacher I’d say to imagine your dream summer vacation and describe it with as much detail as possible. If I got the same answers as above you’d see a grown man crying…

    Frazz

    17 hrs ·

A few weeks ago I was in Boston for one of my favorite things, the Boston Light Swim. I didn’t swim it this year — I had a solo swim slot, but declined it when I won it back in March, when my year was looking a lot less certain, so I crewed for a friend instead. But that still put me on the boat as we approached the starting line out in the harbor and a whale surfaced and spouted maybe 50 yards from us. I was smitten.

A week later, a little south off New Jersey, a whale surfaced a little closer to a small fishing boat. As in, right underneath it, flipping and swamping it. When the Coast Guard got the SOS call, they were a little curious as to how a boat could do that in what were close to ideal conditions. It wasn’t until they reached the boat that they saw the captain and mate had failed to report that they’d been UPENDED BY A WHALE. And then comes the best part of the story: The boat was named the Kaptain Obvious.

That’s the best part of the story, but the relevant part is this: People leave out the most crucial information quite often when it’s so glaringly obvious enough to them that it would seem to be just as evident to everyone else. These kids may be leaving something out.

Generally a boring question. But I did answer it though at the time I wasn’t much of a writer so I could never fill out two whole pages.
