The mind works to fill the void, vast imaginings in which to dwell, lost and wandering.

Place is also way too clean; you need some used diapers, six pack rings and beer cans for ambiance.

I enjoy my solitude … lots of it here in northernmost Maine. I’m sure it would drive most people nuts.

It’s actually not that quiet. You have the sounds of the waves, the callings of the birds. Enjoy it!

I was actually like that as a teenager. I could only do homework if I was surrounded by activity and noise. Now, I’m the opposite.

Although this is funny and I get the point, I’d have to say there are other reasons. Maybe some people in the city are trying to shut out the noise around them?

We camped at Banff National Park during Canada Day weekend. It was a great campground, except for the people three sites away who played Bollywood music for hours every day. When they moved out, someone else started playing Spanish-language music. Personally, I would rather have heard the birdsong.

Two quotes: From Colin Fletcher, The Man Who Walked Through Time, account of his longways hike across Grand Canyon. strange mood toward the end: “I finally realized I had overdosed on beauty – and resolved to return home by way of Las Vegas.”

Janinabarnes: Sierra Club, Going Light with Backpack and Burro. “We found that the crowds diminished with the square of the distance from the road and the cube of the elevation above it.” Get a wilderness permit and camp there.
