You just need a verse about the truck breaking down and the dog dying.

I was 27 when that happened to me, but I also lost my dog and my hair…..there wasn’t enough left to comb over. Life is great now, but that was a tough learning experience.

But do you leave the song on an up-note, or a down-note?

Not a very good one, though. ‘Cuz there’s nothin’ in there ’bout dogs. Or trucks. Or trains. Or Mama.

Just play it backward and you’ll get it all back. Rascal Flats said so.

Not these days. Now, country songs are all about hitting on women with stupid titles like “Body Like a Back Road” and “I’d Like to Check You for Ticks”.

You folks aren’t familiar with the song? “I was drunk the day my Mom got out of prison, and I went to pick her up in the rain. On the way to the depot in my pickup truck, she got run over by a danged old train. You don’t have to call me ‘darlin’, darlin—you don’t even have to call me by my name.” Wish I could remember who recorded it.

Steve Goodman and John Prine beat them to it. I believe the version most heard is by David Allen Coe. Steve’s gone, John ain’t lookin’ that good these days and yet we still have Beiber. What’s wrong with the Universe. Go Cubs!
