It’s possible to reply to somebody by posting an original comment with an @troll at the front of it, you know, rather than clicking on that poster’s “Reply” button and elevating it to “featured comment” status. Just a thot.

“Cherry picking” history is one way to manipulate it to one’s advantage but it is dishonest, often to the extreme. Yes, the Republican Party once stood for civil rights, fair play for all and was anti-fascist.

    The operative word is “once”.

Today the Republican party is 86% white and the more diverse Democratic party is only 57% white.

I don’t think Russians or Canadians are forgettable. They don’t have much in common really other than cold weather.

I am still amazed that folks with such horribly faulty memories can be elected or appointed to high office. How do they remember how to get to the office every day?

I’m on board. I bet “voice” is typing here because there’s no one in Wyoming who will listen to him in person.

@troll Wyoming said“When you don’t have the votes, filibuster.” More false history. You mean how the turtle from Kentucky blocked judicial appointments at multiple levels, blocked legislation for infrastructure jobs, or anything that just went against his plutocrat agenda.

Considering today’s Republican party, I wonder how many Russians any of us has met. The GOP defends Russians and racists.

One doesn’t have to just “meet Russians” to be one who is engaging in espionage with Russia. We have seen evidence of collusion with Russia through internet sabotage and hacks as well as phone calls and physical meetings with those involved with the trump organization before and after the 2016 campaign. So no, it isn’t just a matter of meeting Russians.

I remember the Russians I’ve met. There’s just something “Russian” about them.

On a serious note, it’s quite possible that Canadians are the largest group of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. The Border Patrol never bothers them (unless they happen not to be white), and they are hardly ever asked about their immigration status. I say this as someone who worked for years in immigration law and saw the differences in the experiences with law enforcement of Canadians compared with, say, Guatemalans.

VOICE OF NORTH RATTLESNAKE HILLS, WYOMING is right on the facts. The liberal Democrats couldn’t have passed the Civil Rights act if Everett Dirksen hadn’t rallied Republicans to vote for it. It was possibly the last really decent moment the GOP had, imo.

What’s missing is that Robert Byrd repented, while the GOP has decided that equal rights are “special rights” when applied to people who aren’t like them & share their beliefs. Today’s Republicans would never do something as courageous & decent as joining with Democrats to pass something like the Civil Rights Act.

Two things: 1) Just reading 98% of these comments reminds me of why we can’t carry on reasonable, substantive discussions in this country any more. 2) If you can’t debate a statement point by point, keep your opinions to yourself.

We have (and had) a Prime Minister named Trudeau. That’s a pretty forgettable name, eh Gary.
