    Yes they do!

    Not usually the hard inner wood though….

    They prefer to eat bark and cambium (the soft, growing layer under the bark),

    but stockpile thin branches for winter food.

    They’re much larger and more powerful than most people picture them, usually about 40 to 60 pounds, like a medium size dog, with strong jaws and the ability to digest wood, along with water plants.

     

    And Bilan… I’m not sure what you mean by “digestive purposes”…

    but termites do chew up wood, digest the cellulose, and get their nutrition from it…

    which I’d call “eating” it.
