Had to laugh today. A friend of mine gave her boyfriend a birthday card with a couple in the bedroom. She’s in bed with curlers in her hair and knitting a scarf. He’s standing at a clapper wheel where all the sections are labeled “no sex” except one. "Course we know he didn’t win. She says " Go ahead dear, spin again, after all it’s your birthday "

Why are they all growing beards in November? Actually, men did not shave back then. Not by choice.

November is known as “No-Shave November”, or “Mowvember”. The intention is to raise awareness for testicular cancer, although it’s become somewhat of a fad and has lost that meaning. (Which is why I mention it here. Guys, remember to do a self-check periodically.)

Beards aren’t just for deer season. They come in handy when shoveling snow, using the snowblower, skiing, snowshoeing, plowing in an open station tractor. Not good to have long ones when working with machinery though.

I had my right arm in a sling for several weeks one time. I decided not to learn how to shave left-handed. So I grew a beard. The wife likes it. I can go either way on it, but when the queen is happy, there is peace in the kingdom.

My wife loves my beard, she actually begs me to not shave it off in march (usually a October to March thing) but I can’t stand it in the hot summer.

So not sure why some folks think that all women hate beards.

I do have a brother though that his wife hates his beard so they came to arrangement of I’ll shave if you shave. I don’t ask the details on that though.

My beard is older than some of the people I work with, of course I do keep it trimmed.

I remember as a young kid wanting to have enough facial hair to grow a ‘stash and being frustrated for so long. Now. . . I’m shaving places I never thought of….ears (inside and out) nose, eyebrows. . . Be careful what you wish for.

A full soft beard trimmed beard is better than the current style of scruffy rough sandpaper “you need a shave” style many now have.

Beards be nasty (scientific fact), so I don’t understand my “sisters” that find them appealing (even though I’m fully aware that they definitely actually exist). I guess I’m just stereotypical in this particular way.

Sometime in the last year, the BBC site carried an article about research into the social significance of facial hair. Turned out that women don’t attach a lot of importance to guys’ having beards or being clean-shaven as such, but did tend to notice whoever was wearing what wasn’t in fashion at the moment. A more important function of beards turns out to be establishing the male domination hierarchy. The exact significance varies with the culture and time.

Some women like beards and some don’t. Some men look better with a beard and some don’t. Peace.

I do not really understand some folks absolute disdain for beards and mustaches. I tend to think we as humans, tend to look very nice in our natural patterns of growth. Longer hair tends to look very nice, beards and moustaches tend to look nice, etc.

    .

Now, if people choose to cut or style their hair, or cut or fashion their beard or moustache….even by shaving any of them off….. that is fine too….. it is a “style”. But, how can the normal way the body was designed be considered distasteful? I just do not get it.

    .

As for today’s “celibacy” comment in the comic…. I think that is a bit ludicrous. I have had plenty of opportunities offered to me by a variety of women over the years, even though I have been 100% faithful to only my wife. And, I grew my beard and mustache decades ago when I was 19…. and have never shaved it since. My wife and kids have never seen me without the facial fur.
