Wouldn’t it have been better to just shut it off?

Look at that old CRT TV! I took a working top-of-the-line one to recycling years ago. And for what? There’s only 10 times more that’s 10 times worse on TV these days.

Little did we know back then of a beast on the horizon called the Internet!

NGL, Manimal on the Love Boat sounds like something I’d watch.

Or just push it outside, like the end to ‘Poltergeist’.

Seeing the little table the TV is on reminds me that in many older homes in the 80’s the (lone) TV seemed to be placed as an afterthought – probably because the TV didn’t exist when the house was built and the place hadn’t been remodeled (or even refurnished) since the first TV was purchased. (At least in the economically repressed area I grew up.)

While today’s tv programming is terrible, it is hard to say it is worse than Manimal.

I seriously considered doing that yesterday when the same Target ad with obnoxious music was playing TWICE during each commercial break.

But wait! You didn’t give the Bosnian Shopping Channel a fair chance.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

For some reason, every time I see that title “Manimal”, it reminds me of this movie:

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069372/

Which I actually saw “Coming Soon” scenes of in some other movie I went to see…

I’ve developed a near-zero tolerance for commercials, tv or radio. I listen to radio driving around in the work truck during the day, and I have a sore knuckle from jabbing the OFF button when the commercials start.

TV? Rarely. I’ll sometimes sit with the wife and watch a bit of the “reality” cop shows (I actually quite like the North Woods Law, about the conservation officers/game wardens), but anything else I want to see, I just find somewhere to download it and watch it at my leisure on the computer.

Today’s and yesterday’s programming is aimed at people with a 5th grade education or less, and who have the attention span a of gnat. Do yourself a huge favor, throw your TV out the window. I did over a dozen years ago and have never looked back.

If you think TV back then was crummy, you should see the garbage they have now. To be fair, not every show is horrible. It may take some searching, but you can find some gems among the trash.

Sure, there are some bad TV shows, but to be fair, there are bad books too. It’s the message, not the medium.
