Janis doesn’t realize that the best part of Thanksgiving is leftovers?

I put a comment on yesterdays comic about e-readers some of you might be interested in, they can sure solve some problems. There’s a Gutenberg (free) website that has wonderful old books off copyright that they’d digitized.

Also, for those of us who camp out, and have trouble deciding which book to pack…

Let the man create.

Ah! I hope A&J (with Luddie) visit Gene and company next year.

Maybe the kids will show up and surprise them, OR maybe Arlo knows they are coming.

Maybe Mary Lou will finally say she’s pregnant.

Oh, that’s right. Two of them. So he needs to make a second turkey to insure leftovers.

Thanksgiving is ALWAYS a big production. If you only eat the kind of stuff you make every day, you’re doing it wrong.

Or maybe Arlo has plans to share with someone who doesn’t have the fixings for their own Thanksgiving.

Maybe Robin from next door will join them.

Just two of us here this year, too, alone probably. Bought a 19 pound turkey ‘cause they’re cheapest now by far. My wife will cut it up like a chicken and cook it in pieces then freeze it all for later. She doesn’t like turkey; I love the breast (a male thing, I’m guilty) and cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, dressing, and gravy. I’m thinking Chinese food tomorrow, best restaurant I can find; can’t imagine it will be crowded. I hope one is open – can’t imagine anyone a T-Day agnostic or atheist.

ey, maybe we should all invite some Syrians in to dinner. Syrians for sure. Make a point of it. Start a new tradition; not just tokenism – take pictures BTW, and email them to your congressmen and presidential can’tidates (sic), governor.

In fact, go beyond just that – add Cubans, Mexican immigrants, neighbors, Indians, Sikhs, Koreans, Vietnamese, et al; have a big block or community party and go beyond your own family’s comfort zone, a chance to overwhelm/ignore the curmudgeons voice, and welcome each and every person, personally. Start a friendship with at least one other person previously outside your personal comfort zone. Make, and keep, a commitment to visit again to learn about each other – culture and life. Do something called outreach, together, for a different cultural element of your greater community — homeless, battered women’s’ shelter, drug/alcohol recovery center, refugee support group, disable vets, or other.

Empty nesters Thanksgiving Dinner…….Happy Thanksgiving to all you commentators out there… Do something great volunteer at a shelter… make someone’s day…..

I wasn’t going to do the big thanksgiving this year since my wife is a vegetarian, but when she suggested we eat with her mother at the assisted care home I immediately told her I would cook the meal and we would take it to her mother (don’t ever eat at an assisted care home….mush). I have a 14 lb turkey, pumpkin pie, waldorf salad, potatoe salad, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing (including a vegie stuffing for the wife), gravy. Doesn’t take all that long to fix, and worth it.

We were just 2 also. I finally convinced him to only buy a 12 lb turkey not 18 as he has done in the past whether it is 12 people or just us. We have had Thanksgiving dinner 3 times now – the soup was used up after the 1st leftovers as was the corn, used up the other side dishes tonight on the 2nd leftovers (not that I cooked much as we are not suppose to eat anything with carbs anyway and I don’t like most of the traditional side dishes anyway). The other 2 meals were eaten out as we had places to be on the weekend. I figure I will cook side dishes of some sort for 1 more meal before he gives up and tells me to freeze the rest to “use later”, which means that sometime in April it will be thrown out.
