What a wonderful Father and Son talk. That is just another example of what a great strip this is (just as it was in the days of its creator, Chester Gould)! “Dick Tracy” has always had heart as well as action!

PQ, you did it, again! You have the unique ability to hit one over the centerfield fence every time you come up to the plate. With today’s strip, I wish that Mike & Joe had spent those panels giving a bad guy summation for scorekeeping purposes. I’m not much of a “touchy-feely” person.

Since we seem to be getting out of the age closet today:

I am 61, meaning I was 11 when Bribery came on the scene the first time back in 1965. Evil though he may be, I credit him for hooking me on the strip.

Happy birthday Dick Tracy! Today, in 1931 “Dick Tracy” comic strip (originally Plainclothes Tracy), by Chester Gould, debuted.

Same reason Bart Simpson calls Homer…Homer. Just cause.

Fantastic family moment in the classic Gould style! This is one of the best strips since Staton and Curtis took over, and there is plenty of competition in that category!

VB—you’ve got me by 16 years, and I’m feeling a bit like a dino, as well.. But, that means you got to read a whole lot more of vintage Tracy when it was new. Anyhow, age is a state of mind over matter—if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

VB, I don’t post much, but I am nearing 77. You have me beat by four. But I too remember discovering the comics in the Golden Age: Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie, Smilin’ Jack, Captain Easy, Terry and the Pirates (and Steve Canyon later), Li’l Abner, and several others including my favorite Sunday strip Prince Valiant. Now-a-days the only strip that I read the comments section is Dick Tracy. This is the best revitalization of a strip that I have ever seen, and the information that I find in the comments section is so helpful.

Honey Moon has the Power..

Junior is right to feel concerned for Honeymoon: she is so like him. He had Tracy to pull him out of numerous scrapes with hooligans. Now, in addition to Junior, Mysta and Tracy have Honey’s back. She was in a tight spot in BB-Eyes’ van, and her adventure at Ace Tower could have easily gone wrong. With her inquisitive mind, big heart and moxie, she is bound to run into more difficult situations. I agree with Willy007 that attention to characters beyond the realm of crime and capture is essential. Team Tracy knows. I eagerly await the next adventure that brings Mysta and Honeymoon together.

I’m with those who enjoy moments like today’s strip. It adds to the depth of the characters, just as the recent scene with Sam and Fritz Ann, and the earlier scenes with Mysta and Honeymoon.-I guess Junior never thought the future through when Honeymoon was born.Half alien, hitting puberty, growing horns… I’m sure the day will come when she’s interested in boys to the point that Junior wishes she’d stay focused on crimefighting.

Great strip today! And I enjoy reading the comments as much as the strip!

At 59 I feel like the kid around here. I remember reading Dick Tracy as a kid back in the 1960s before the local paper dropped it (in the middle of the story line naturally), and most of their other comic strips. The state of the comics in my local rag is absolutely pitiful. One broadsheet page in two columns in the daily paper with four single panels at the bottom and 14 strips. The color comics, which come out on Saturday (common practice in Canada because few papers do Sundays here) is two broadsheet pages in the main paper: three single panel “strips,” ten multi panel comics shoe-horned into the space so that “Slylock Fox” can get a third of a page. They also offer four strips online, three of which aren’t in the newspaper. No wonder I come here!

Thanks, guys, for your responses regarding my advancing age question. It appears that there are three of us that are in our eighties. Bob and Sydney Phillips have me beat by a few years. So… I suppose that I am the youngster among the 80+ commenters.

@ Vista Bill Well, you’ve got me beat by 18 years yet I feel like an old timer as far as Tracy is concerned. The 1st story that got my attention was the 1960 Fifth and Flyface story. The strip was the NY Sunday News one where Haiku Kou escaped them by flying the plane away as a tidal wave was coming. I kept reading until the local papers dropped Tracy in 1972 during the Peanut Butter story. I picked it up again later through various sources and resumed daily reading on GoComics when Staton and Curtis began in 2011.

I started reading Tracy about the time the newspapers were running the story about the old Mayor’s dog kennels, and a gang that was secretly training a leopard to snatch handbags from jewelry salesmen. ’62 or ’63, I think. But, at the same time,my friends and I discovered a treasure trove of old comic books in the basement of one of our houses, and there were quite a few of the Harvey reprints, so I was able to read stories from late ’40s thru mid 50s, and these turned out to be my favorite years of Tracy. Vista Bill is older than me – I just turned 65. Bill, you surely must have read the same stories in the paper when they originally appeared, yes??

You want to talk about “seasoned” readers? Under the present Team Tracy, Junior looks more like a grown-up Archie Andrews. (Hey – that’s it; Tracy’s town is Riverdale! Maybe we’ll have a cross-over drama where Betty or Veronica re-enter Junior’s life…)
