@NabuquduriuzhurI hold that to be a myth. I measured the glass from an old house with vernier calipers. Among thirteen panes, there was no consistent difference from top to bottom.

You know, a boy with Calvin’s imagination really deserves a box of 64 w/ built in sharpener.

Correct. Glass is what is known as an amorphous solid. Essentially it is a liquid, but a liquid that flows very, very slowly. Some glass makers added lead to their glass, which reduces the viscosity by a factor of 100 or so, and thus 60 years would not be enough time to noticeably thicken at the bottom. It would take more like 600 years. Also note that the hotter it is, the faster the “amorphous solid” will flow. Thus, windows with a sunny west exposure will flow more than windows with a protected northern exposure.

What’s really tragic are the ones that get broken in half and tossed in the clothes dryer.

Be thankful you don’t have a little brother who smashes up all of your crayons and then tells mom you did it all the while laughing hysterically as mom pretends not to notice :p Venting done :/

Yes. Yes life is like that. Calvin the existentialist.

Google “Is glass a liquid”. There are scientific foundations both pro and con. But it seems conclusive that glass flowing to the bottom is an urban legend. Old glass was just made with a different, imperfect process. And it stands to reason that if one edge was thicker, the glazer would install the thicker edge at the bottom.

They’re FOR coloring and wearing down, Calvin. Nothing tragic about using them for what they’re intended for, having fun coloring.
