Thanks. Can you give me a job? no, I didn’t think so. Can you spare a dime? No soap there either. I guess your heartfelt thanks is all we get, that is unless it cost you money.

Lift your cup to the fallen comrades who gave their life for our country, if not to our freedom.

Most veterans are or were employed, and didn’t beg for anything because they took control of the situation, just like they did in the service.

Here’s to you, Uncle Charles. Although I was born after you gave the ultimate sacrifice and I never met you, I will nevertheless never forget you.

To all the women and men who served and are still serving our Country to keep our right of freedom, I salute you and I thank you for your courage.

certain people in this country need to start PAYING THEIR TAXES!! part of that money is how we take care of our military vets. so, stop sending money to overseas account to avoid paying taxes, and pay your taxes!

When I was young, I learned that my great-great-great grandfather died in the Battle of Shilo, in the Civil War. We still have the last letter he wrote the day before. It seems like yesterday…

Much of the American-Indian genocide has the same causation as the VA scandal – bureaucrats making decisions for the great unwashed. If we really cared about our Veterans, we would abolish the VA and use the money to subsidize private health care policies for those who served. Would offer immeasurably better care even if it would not be cheaper. The VA is the best argument against net neutrality, too.

My father, who passed away in 1999, served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. I have his uniform picture taken when he was 20 years old hanging above my bed. Dad, I salute you!

Our soldiers are sent to be slaughtered because someone, some where got greedy. Change human nature and no problem. .But it is reasonably arguable that if the US had not dragged its feet in enetering WW1 it would have been over much sooner with less total losss of life, though with larger American casualties.

I think a large part of the problems concerning benefits for veterans is simply that from the mid-1940 until the late 1980s most of our Congress were veterans themselves, and didn’t need to have things explained to them. Today, less than 20% of either the House or the Senate has ever served his or her country; they don’t know – or don’t care – about the military.
Heck, even Prince Harry served in Afghanistan, and Prince William is a military helicopter pilot.

OK, I grew up thinking Memorial Day is for the dead and Veterans Day is for the living. Seems to me the two categories have become conflated.

I have two nephews who survived deployments as marines, an uncle who died at Bataan, and another who drank, probably to forget.

I see many comments referring to fallen military. While deserving of our respect and thanks, that is pretty much the purpose of Memorial Day.

I guess you are right. If you want to thank a veteran, those that can still hear you, and it makes you feel goos go ahead. You will never understand what I am talking about anyway

Peter Gerlach: Right, and in the meantime, give disabled veterans the help they need and stop disabling more..jbmlaw: Oh yes, abolish the government and let the idle rich rule us by edict. The species tried feudalism and it didn’t work. Tried capitalism and it didn’t work. Tried communism and it didn’t work. Now try cooperation – it has worked in a few places, why not try it in more.

Hitler was about 50 in 1939.
Some think that’s oldLincoln was around 51.Mussolini was around 56 in 39, but he actually tried to avoid war until Italy was stronger, just went along. If older people are involved in the beginnings of wars, it isn’t because the elderly are more prone to war but that we seldom put kids in charge of nations. Those who make war kill youths and elderly and all between. That’s why they need to be resisted, not yielded to.It would have been fun to ignore Stalin’s conquests, Saddam’s conquests, Islamic conquests. Then we could say how peaceable we were as we ignored the enslavement and murder of millions..Sometimes you gotta fight and our veterans answered the call of duty.

Pancake breakfast at the Vet’s Homeless Shelter (where I once resided) stay for the parade. then an afternoon with my Grand daughter her Mom and Dad. It takes effort to get on with your life or you just let the Universe pull you along. Make a choice.

Thanks, Arlo (and Jimmy Johnson)! Also, today is the day to HONOR VETERANS, not a day to debate the causes of wars and political policy.Show some respect.
