Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for November 21, 2014
Transcript:
Calvin: "Mom, where do we keep the papier-mache?" Mom: "We don't have any" Calvin: "Oh great! Just GREAT! How am I going to make a roadrunner without papier-mache?!" Mom: "Maybe you should've thought of that before 7:00 at night. You'll have to make one some other way" Calvin: "BUT HOW?!" Mom: "This is YOUR school project, Calvin. YOU do the work" Calvin: "If I get a bad grade, it'll be YOUR fault for not doing the work for me!"

Got any silly-putty? Clay? Play-doh? Newspaper, water, and flour or glue? With your hyperactive imagination, surely you can come up with something besides blaming Mom for YOUR failure to do YOUR job for you. Tell ‘em Hobbes ate the stinkin’ bird.

I never got why Calvin would need papier-mache to make a roadrunner to put in a shoebox scene.

This is the first time I noticed they have a dishwasher. Back in the day, I didn’t know a single household that had one. I DO remember one family that had a microwave: that copper color. Amana, I think…

Sadly, I have high school students with the exact same mentality…

It’s already Mom’s fault…and Dad’s, too… if she doesn’t wanna take the rap alone.

will the toilet paper mix and blend in the blender without any water or moisture ?

A born Republican?? Then that would mean that he believes that he should take responsibility for his own actions. I think you mean it’s the liberal way. It’s never your fault, always blame someone else or some other group of people.

Finally, I thought for a minute it was never going to get political.

One of Watterson’s favourite formulas is to have a 6 year-old bluntly confess to the childish beliefs and attitudes that are actually held by large portions of the human race. In the mouth of a little boy it’s hilarious because you know that Calvin is smart enough to eventually outgrow this nonsense. If you didn’t think he was going to eventually grow up, this strip would shock and outrage you. It’s unfortunate that far too many people don’t grow up and spend their entire lives blaming others for everything wrong in their own lives.

If Congress shuts down the government, it’s the PRESIDENT’S fault for not doing everything they wanted!

I just believe it’s the Parent’s fault for Calvin’s study habits.A six-year-old needs someone who is interested in seeing he does what he’s supposed to do.

Calvin’s form of thinking seems to fit with modern parenting for major assignments like this.

Calvin’s way of thinking has most likely elected him to Congress.

It’s never the kid’s or parent’s fault. It’s always the teacher’s fault now days.

Calvin understands the ‘blame game’. He should run for president.

Just poke a hole in the bottom of the shoe box. Tell ’em that the roadrunner got away and the hole is where the coyote landed when the Acme machine malfunctioned … again. :)

Seems to me Mom might be further ahead helping him out than dealing with what he might get into if she doesn’t. What reasonably intelligent parent doesn’t offer to help a 6-year-old with his project?

And there is a solution for no paper mache. Just take some Elmer’s glue, mix it with water, then tear strips of newspaper and dip it in the mix.
