Larry might be on to something here……pedestrians are getting way to smug with their walking out in front of vehicles……

Just passed the theory portion for my drivers license not 12 hours ago. Oh, how I was tempted to write stuff like Larry is here, with correct grammar, of course.

Larry still gets his driver’s license. Those pedestrians need to be taught a lesson (except, of course, if I am one)….

After the pedestrian, take out a couple of bicyclists. You get extra credit and improve the driving experience.

This almost coincides with my idea for people who park in handicapped spots. If they aren’t disabled and want to park in those spots that badly, I’d be happy to help them earn the privilege.

That sounds like about half the drivers I’ve run into when there not only is a cross walk but also a walk-don’t walk crossing light and the light is on walk. They don’t care, can turn right on red around here so their going to go whether there’s someone in the crosswalk or not. And about a third to half of those don’t even come to a stop or even slow down very much before they go.

You are very right, @SizeofaPea. I mean the people who have no obvious disability, and no handicapped designation on their car (license plate or placard). I’m all for people who have special needs having them met. I have a real problem with people who have no need for handicapped parking, and insist on taking up those spots because they are “convenient” or the driver is lazy.

My father was disabled and I have some cousins who were born with severe disabilities. The idea that someone would make life harder for any of them because of laziness or selfishness really irks me. That feeling then extends to all of the people that I don’t know who are in similar situations.

I had a coworker who decided to park in a handicapped spot because it was raining and she didn’t feel like walking through the rain to a store. She got a ticket in the mail and had to go to court. Someone in her community makes a point of filming people abusing handicapped parking spots and turns the videos over to the police who ticket and fine the drivers. I love that!!!

As for the misuse by people who know handicapped people, I hear you. If you wanted to take my dad along with you and use his parking permit, that I was okay with, but if you were just using his “man” as we called the placard, we were going to have a problem!
