I was also wondering…….I know nowadays it’s cool, but back in 1932 when Bates first surfaced, did Belle still call him “Broadway” Bates, or was something more formal required, like “Master”?

I agree Tommygunner, the hand on the shoulder is a good idea. But them becoming novice crime-fighters, very BAD idea! Hope they come out of this storyline okay, as they seem kind of likeable.

This can’t end well for them. They sound delusional about their roleplaying. David may have lucked into a situation where he could take on a criminal and win, but he’ll be even luckier if he never again interrupts a crime in progress. The next one might involve someone with a gun and a lack of respect for his costume armor.

Among other things, I wonder how the Delusional Duo plans to spot a crime in progress (is there an app to monitor twitter for crime-in-progress reports?) and get there in time to do something. But it’s more likely that Broadway Bates will bring the crime to them.

a showdown between black p. cinnamon knight, belle and broadway?!? can it be? but wait, who is THAT in the shadows? could it be DICK TRACY? YE GODS! it seems the odds have switched into cinnamon and black p’s favor.. but wait, broadway has an UMBRELLA GUN?!? it looks as if black p and cinnamon knight have yet to pay the piper! i’m thinking this may be the way things go for our delusional duo in short order!

Stephanie does not look too enthusiastic to me, and that gives me a sense of foreboding about Black Piranha’s survival prospects. At least David is big enough to be a credible costumed crimefighter. But this foolhardy idea they have is not well considered.

it should be interesting to see whether the new team goes the direction Gould would have taken when civilians mix with the criminals (death of the civilians < like the Summer Sisters>) or whether DT will save them from that fate; as I said earlier, I think David should go to Police college and join the major crime unit (providing he survives this story). While I still feel weird about all the Batman references, I have to admit that this story is beginning to intrigue me.

Good Morning Detectives!Okay, we finally have a wrinkle in this new storyline that’s finally making me sit up and take notice. I didn’t care for this plot until David and Stephanie came into the picture in their civilian identities.

But if the Black Piranha chooses the straight and narrow, I wonder what story she had that made her choose crime in the first place. Even if they were play-acting, both of them had to have some sort of backstory. There’s still a lot of development needed before things get explosive.

And when Broadway Bates gets involved, things will get nasty-ugly for our seeming naive couple.

Just google Real life superhero to see where David and Stephanie may be coming from. It’s a phenomenon that has been going on for a few years now. Both Castle and NCIS have done episodes involving it.

Wow, reading through the comments from yesterday, you guys have a LOT of drama going on. Lighten up, people! It is a comic strip! I don’t care HOW long ya’ll have been fans, what someone you know or used to know did for the strip or how they were affiliated with anyone. Step back, take a deep breath, and say to yourself “This is just a comic strip.” And trying to POLICE the board? TOO funny. Why not go out and get a real job?! Whenever I check here (I post this strip every morning onto my work’s intranet site), I see the SAME people posting ALL day long. There is a world outside of your computer and your house—go out and live your own life and stop taking this stuff so seriously! Having said that, I am done. Do think about it, though.

If David & Stephanie were thinking things through, the first thing they’d do in their program to become real-life costumed crimefighters is move to a city where such things are normal. But, of course, if David & Stephanie were thinking things through, we wouldn’t have much of a story, would we?

@sentaison: I think “Blue Bloods” also featured a “real life superhero” a couple weeks ago.

Broadway has a history of dumping bricks on the heads of cops and putting blowtorches to their feet. I’m sure he’ll cook up something nasty up for the hopelessly naive cosplayers. And especially since he hates costumes.

This story has been criticized for being slow moving. But I’ve been patient, and the pieces are coming together now for an exciting conclusion. We’re starting to care for David and Stephanie, who aren’t real bright but are likable. We wouldn’t care for them at all unless Mike Curtis took the time to give us strips like today’s. ^^I agree and I am certainly one who found this story tedious at the start, but, I kept with it, because, while I may criticize some of what the new team is doing, overall I think the strip is getting better all the time and I once again look forward to reading DT, the way I once did!

Tommygunner, great post. You summed up my thoughts very well. The Curtis and Staton team should be commended for their excellent work. I never fail to be entertained by them even though I don’t always comment about it. I am pinching myself that we have such quality people in charge of Dick Tracy after the strip limped along for many years. And I can’t wait to see Moon Maid again too. Booyah!

Yesterday, I poster Dick Tracy, South Park style, but deliberately left the pics unnamed, today, I fixed that…You might notice that I did the Pat Patton in the style of his being Dick’s partner (I’ve always preferred Pat as Dick’s partner to that ruffian Sam) & Junior the way he looked when he was fresh from his time with his stepfather, Steve the Tramp; simply because I felt he was more interesting, visually, that way :)

earlier helloimjohnnycat said:“we get more multi-culturalism being crammed down our throats.

there truly is no place left to go."

Your problem doesn’t appear to be with the content of a comic strip as much as the content of reality. As for your remark about “no place left to go,” well…

Hey, don’t be knocking Eddie “Rochester” Anderson. There were a lot worse examples of ethnic stereotyping that went on without change a lot longer than the Rochester character did (one prime example being “Beulah” who was a Black woman played by a white man until TV came in). If you look at Eddie Anderson’s career as Rochester you’ll find that the character was rarely the subservient “Steppin Fechit” type that people like to think he was.

Oh, and as to “helloimjohnycat”, it must be real comfortable living in the 1950s but it might be better if you and your attitudes joined the rest of us in the 21st century.
