It’s Ohio; the hills are steep only in Calvin’s imagination.
what else is missing on the safety check is helmets (not that it matters since the boy and his tiger aren’t trying out for a the US Olympic bobsled team)
It was always the lack of steering that made a toboggan seem like a suicide machine to me.
Good. Safety is for control freaks
Living on the edge of danger, walking the precipice of life, traversing the plains of destiny. Hold strong, be strong Calvin.
First aid kit? None.
To be fair, he didn’t say it had to PASS a safety check.
2019 at the top, 2020 when they finally stop. Perfect!
No-holds-barred fun! Hope 2020 is the same for all of us C&H readers. Advance wishes to you and your families!
Just makes for a bigger thrill, right Calvin?
Adrenaline: my drug of choice.
“If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room”. Go for it Calvin!!
Ah, the Good Old Days: just do it :-)
No safety? Check!
They have much fun!!
The only snow thing more insane than a toboggan is one of those disk things
I rarely ever get snow…
Calvin Doesn’t Care About Safety I Guess…
Fun level at 100%. At least until the sudden stop.
A great winter tradition, surviving the toboggan run.
Icing on the cake: Text while your driving the sled (I know, they didn’t have that back then….)
I have a great sledding story involving a fractured femur and almost killing a friend’s kid, but I’ll save it for the next time we’re out at the local brew pub.
I grew up in NE Ohio – some great hills just across the street from our house. My grandfather was a tinsmith and built a toboggan that could fit about eight kids. It had strut guides for control on the sides. Everyone went nuts when we showed up. It took at least two of us to pull it up the hill. But it was a fast, wild ride on the way down! Some great memories! Thanks, Grandpa!
That’s a toboggan, not a sled.
Competent Driver – None!
Being too safe can take the fun out of fun,
I loved tobogganing, even though I split mine in half on a covered rock.
And so Calvin and Hobbes launch into 2020 with wild abandon. It is fitting.
Let’s go exploring …
On a rather significant anniversary here.
Today’s comic made me chuckle, too. These two are fearless!
@THISGUY, And that’s all is needed !
