    A good friend of mine recently celebrated his 83rd birthday wearing a tee-shirt which read, “Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional.” At his birthday dinner someone said to him, “Getting old sucks, doesn’t it?” My friend thought for a moment, then with a twinkle in his eye, replied, “No, no. Being old sucks. Getting old was fun!” I have often said that his reply might be the most profound statement I’ve ever heard.
