Uh, okay. I hope he didn’t burn bridges at his former job.
Gods dammit.. I really hoped the feeling of foreboding I got after Joe met Alex was wrong.. guess not. :(
Perhaps the employees would EMBRACE John’s husband. This isn’t Stonewall and the year isn’t 1969 you know!!!!!!!!!
Well one thing is sure. If I ever heard that my boss did something like that, he would get a piece of my mind. I mean come on, when do we live? In the 1950? Not sure, I wanted to work for someone like that. Probably rather not.
I’m amazed someone with that attitude would consider hiring someone with John’s ‘Road Warriors’ hair in the first place. I think the style would have kept him out of a closed-minded outfit.
It’s a minor nit to pick; it just wandered through my empty head.
…And there it is.
Now over to A.J.for the counterattack.
Well that attitude just sucks – as if John couldn’t do his job because he is gay. What a crock !!
- writers – where are you going with this bad attitude ????
Thank you for finally letting that shoe drop. Been waiting for it with a bit of dread. So angry & sad. Hopefully, people like that Joe are a dying breed.
Joe is an all to common employer. They are homophobic, but use their employees as the excuse for not hiring gays. Bet he’s gonna lose a lot of employees when they find out!
The pink triangle was a nice touch. Really great composition with this page, and the dialog hits right where it’s supposed to.
If you want to live in a different world, you have to make a difference.
What, you were gonna go around telling all the other employees about his sexual orientation? News flash, you jerk. THAT’S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!!!! Whether they would embrace it or not it’s not something that’s supposed to be discussed in the workplace! I’ve never talked about my sexual orientation in the workplace. I’m sure the fact that I was working with the man I was married to was a pretty big clue, anyway. Although these days you can’t be too sure. I actually wonder now if my ex wasn’t as straight as he said he was.
Yeah… although I figured this was coming, it really isn’t that realistic. I’ve worked in a lot of different businesses over the years with LGBTQ people and it’s not been a big deal for anyone. A gay man is one of the top-polling presidential candidates, for heaven’s sake. A boss might think this, but he’s not going to come right out and say it. Lawsuit, anyone?
I don’t understand how Joe can say they’re friends and then pull a stunt like that!
I don’t think you know what “friends” means you homophobic jerk…
How much of a friend could he be if he didn’t know John was gay?
There’s still a chance that someone above Joe will get wind of this bs stunt and put a stop to it.
With my staff I only care about the job they can do, not about their personal life. It’s none of my business who they are involved with so long as it doesn’t interfere with their job performance. I do admit though that when a new employee is hired I do wonder why they feel the need to tell me their sexual orientation. Being male are the women letting me know so I don’t flirt with them? For the men are they hoping I’ll flirt with them? I just don’t understand why they feel that I, as their boss, need to know their sexual orientation.
I am sad to be right…
Someone better hit that asshole over the head.
I hope this storyline ends with that douchebag getting his ass handed to him in a lawsuit.
Isn’t that, I dunno, a little illegal? You could definitely sue over that, seeing as companies are not allowed to reject you based on your sexual orientation, gender, beliefs, etc.Though I don’t think John would do that to such a… good friend. Alex on the other hand.. might
You think you “feel awful” yet, Joe, really? Just give A.J 5 minutes to put this story on “Facepage” and your new business is stillborn…
shouldn’t this be called discrimination??
You’ve GOT to be kidding me…
Come to Europe…. We need good people, and we don’t care, whether you are gay, lesbian, straight or whatsoever…. OK, most of us don’t care….
That is so like the people of today. I’ll bet anything that the employees wouldn’t have a problem with them at all. I think it’s that idiot!!!!
This law was designed to protect companies that want to specifically discriminate against LGBTQ people in hiring, for reasons they claim are religious in nature, from being subjected to civic pressure to hire fairly: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chick-fil-a-law-texas-governor-signs-law-prohibiting-adverse-actions-due-to-religious-views/ Just sayin’ . . .
With friends like this….
When are we seeing the next chapter of the story?
over3 weeks the same comic strip!!! really!!! give it up!!!
Hey guys, this July 14th comic is still appearing as “today’s comic” on August 2nd. How often do you update?
Just speculating here, I think Joe might decide friendship and John’s remarkable talent would (pardon the expression and note the lower case ‘t’) trump his issues with John and Alex’s marriage. Another possible arc for this story might take us a bit darker, possibly a mugging in the parking lot and John comes to the rescue. Either way, I think Joe is going to come around and beg forgiveness. By the way, what is John’s line of work?
