When I was in Korea, there was a recall on Riunite. Armed Forces TV and radio repeated the notice frequently for over a week. I ask the club manager, why? It’s not like anyone buying Riunite are putting it up to let it age.

The strain had no amino acids, so it was not “carbon-based.” It’s been a while, too (I was in high school when I saw the movie in the theater; I read the book not long afterward). Checking the script (at https://www.stockq.org/moviescript/A/andromeda-strain-the.php), they say what it’s made of—“Hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, sulfur, silicon, et cetera.” and no amino acids—but they don’t go further. The strain could not survive in alkaline environments. The old man ingested sterno, the baby was colic and cried almost continually, raising the alkaline content of their bloodstreams.
