I certainly agree with Andy’s handling of the young hooligans, but when he’s waiting for the table, it’s a different story…

This is a rare occurrence: Yesterday Andy totaled 102 comments, while Luann which is known for having huge numbers of comments had only 77. Go figure.

Does anybody know how old Andy is supposed to be? I know he and Flo have been married for “twenty odd years”, as Flo once put it. (Actually, in one of my all-time favorite strips, and I’d appreciate it if anybody could post it: Andy is storming out of the house with a suitcase, Flo is crying into a hanky. The next panel has a passerby asking, “Excuse me, do you know Andy Capp?” Flo replies, “I should do, I’ve been studying drama with him for twenty odd years!”

I think newspapers used to gauge popularity of comics by the number of complaints they would get by temporarily removing them.

LOL LOL. I couldn’t stop laughing at this one.

Well it was their own fault, winding him up.

Don’t fret, Andy. Talking about your wife won’t make you lose concentration.

Always on at you for money?

    Try the other way round…

Thank you loads for the info on Quadrophenia. It actually sounds interesting. It may be too masculine for me though, sorry.

    Hope you’re well!

I never heard of Elevator as a brand name, but I do know that elevators (lifts for you Brits) used to have operators, like busses have drivers. The operators seldom got lost along their route. But the job did have it’s ups and downs.

Did that lift on Bath Street have an operator? I once used a very old and very small lift in Paris that was still self-service.

On my car the headlights turn of with the key but the rest stay on. A really annoying buzzer goes off when I open the door.

Otis did not invent the elevator/lift. He invented the first reliable safety brake for elevators.

ABOUT Andy’s age…….I don’t know how to fetch up old classics (and I have to say that Andy is an OLD classic!) like Sandfan and Eldo do, so I’m forced to merely describe it. I went looking through my old paperback collections of old Andys but didn’t find the one I mentioned. I did find this one, so (please forgive me not posting it since I don’t know how; use your imaginations): First panel: Andy asleep on the couch. (With a very large “Z”, which would appear to be British for snoring…..) Second panel: Flo’s helpful advice: “Yer gettin’ to an age when yer ought t’ be takin’ care of y’self—instead o’ lyin’ there, yer should be usin’ yer legs a bit.” Third panel: Andy replies, “When a bloke’s pushin’ fifty, that’s exercise enough!” Fourth panel: Andy snoring (with the aforementioned very large “Z”.) So I’m thinking that maybe Andy is older than the 36 that Sandfan conjectured? (I mean, I’M bleedin’ 38 and I’d hate to think I’m older than Andy!!
