You know, Raul, it might help if you didn’t keep staring at Paris as if he’s done something wrong. Better yet, say something.

I used to be that all US citizens were called Americans. Now it is an insult to be called American unless you are a white Christian. Otherwise you have to put something in front of it.

Unsurprisingly enough, this crap is so annoying because of the worthless PC crowd. What was wrong by calling someone by the country they were named, if they are visiting then Mexican (for an example), if moved and now living here American (I.N.T.F.C.)

Genuinely, someone who just moved last week from a country they’ve spent their whole life in is probably that. (Yes I made assumptions there.) Mexican, in his case. Or maybe Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Dominican.

If he were Dominican and Goat called him Mexican, that would be rude.

If someone has lived their whole life in America, American is often good. But let them lead. If they have a more specific identity, great, if not, great. Insisting someone whose parents are Mexican that has never even been is Mexican can be downright rude. Insisting they’re Mexican American if they would prefer to be American, rude. Insisting American and “why does it matter” if they prefer Mexican American is, in fairness, also rude.

Like if someone says their name is Allison and you insist you’re going to call them Ally, and introduce them as Ally, and they don’t like that… its very rude! Very similar idea going on here!

If you don’t know, and you aren’t close, it may not be polite to ask if they haven’t volunteered. In that case… just don’t use that qualifier. Don’t say they’re an “anything.” Just say, this is Raul. (Or Allison. Whatever.)

“PC” isn’t some America-dooming, all-encompassing evil. Goat was just taking it to the extreme and being ridiculous.

“Politically correct” is a loaded term to begin with. I like to think of “PC” as “properly considerate.” It’s about simply respecting people, not walking on eggshells around them. There’s nothing wrong with a little discretion and decorum.

He is American. People from Mexico, the US and Canada are North American. People from south of Mexico are American, prepended with “Central” or “Latin” as one desires.

Hey Raul, Do you naturally ignore all friendly queries from your new neighbours, or is it just you puppet master Pastis who make you take such an unfriendly attitude? Maybe you came to the wrong place if you (and your puppet-meister are SO uptight with it?)

Goat is experiencing a Liberal Guilt panic attack. From what I’ve read or seen, that’s been pretty common since Tuesday.

Take a tranquilizer, Goat. Raul is probably still trying to figure out what your problem is.
