Ok, that was legitimately laugh out loud funny for me.
And the perspective is intentionally nonexistent.
Yeah and old chooches today don’t know how not to be Ironic and grouchy. Except with an air of Ironic detachment.
‘Ironic detachment’? THAT’S the punchline?!! Nancy and Sluggo thinking they have to act all ‘cool’ and uncaring about mailing a letter? And an old guy thinking they should take it more seriously? How will I contain my guffaws?
The gag is good, the art is bad.
The Top 5 gave this away.
In this age of political correctness, I’m surprised that Nancy and Sluggo are still chubby.
I guess he didn’t know that they were mailing him his birthday card. Maybe they can ask for it back when he gets it.
“Be Earnest” was wonderful. Thank you, Ms Jaimes. It reminded me of (50 years ago!) the BC cavemen were trying to decide what to name this pump inside everyone that made them live and one suggested a “Hart.”
Perhaps because I grew up with the original but believe the art is poor and the overall humor is lacking for the most part. Seems a very hard attempt to be relevant and funny but it fails.
This is the best new Nancy so far. I can hardly see Gilchrist in the rearview mirror. One Sunday more and he’ll be gone forever.
ha ha ha ha!
Best Nancy in years
Its 2018 and Nancy has juice—great job OJ!
Olivia Jaimes is out for blood with half the comments section today. It’s so good.
I’m past my mid ‘50s, and I think I’ve written maybe 10 checks in the last ten years. I did mail a letter the other day to the tax assessor’s office, tho.
Please bring back Guy Gilchrist, my ribs cannot take me laughing so much!
Funny! And very different from previous artists’ Nancys, with an adult commenting on N & S’s behavior.
I don’t care for this new format, I like the old style much better.
These walk on characters aren’t of the Nancyverse.
Somebody asked for blue and we got it.
Complete with moon and stars and….
Oh. That’s the photographer’s backdrop and Nancy had an ice cream cone.
Wow! I saw this on the “Top 5” and then laughed out loud. Nancy had been on my queue for many years, but it long ago had slid to the bottom of my list (which meant for me, it was not often read because I often did not work all the way through “My Comics”….. I tended to have the “must reads” at the top and the seldom to never reads at the bottom).
I am in the camp with the opinion that the changes Olivia has made are WONDERFUL. I was not fond of look of the Gilchrist drawing style, and the stories were not particularly my comedic tastes. I like the clean, simpler look Olivia has adopted, and for me it hearkens back to the Bushmiller drawing style. And, I very much like the more ironic humor Olivia has!!!!!
I have moved the new Nancy up to the top 15 in my queue now. I will want to read it every day.
I am enjoying the new version very much. Olivia, keep it going young lady.
Girlfriend’s like older than he is.
Bushmiller had the original “air of ironic detachment.” Keep it going, Olivia!
This new version of “Nancy” by the new artist reminds me of a bad advertisement, whether in print, on TV or on the radio. That type of ad may be awful, but it sticks in your mind and subliminally gets you to think about the product. For example, a local car dealer has the tag line that all his deals are “HUUUUUUUUUUGEAH”. Very annoying, but very memorable. The varying opinions on this strip are interesting. Personally, it is growing on me but my favorite were the Nancy comic trips by Guy Gilchrist.
“The Importance of Being Earnest”
Not bad … not bad at all!
In my opinion, today’s strip could’ve been even better if the “dang it” had been a “dagnabbit” instead. To each his/her own, though.
Keep doing what you’re doing, Olivia. I’m thankful that new “Nancy” strips are continuing, despite the fact that people can never please everyone …
Didn’t think the joke was funny at all. Also, the lack of any punctuation pretty much screams out. Intentional for sure, but also indicative of a lack of any standards.
imagine if you will no commas or periods of question marks in printed versions of anything how will you really know when one sentence ends and the other begins for that matter when is it a sentence or a question must be an attempt to be different that will ultimately lead to a big change namely a drop in readership or am i being just an old fogey
Sorry, I’m not finding the strip funny. I think part of the difficulty is trying to use humor with a heavy modern message on characters that look like they did in the 1940’s.
I cackled. Love this!
I’d like to think I can do anything with an air of ironic detachment
Olivia a great at trolling her haters! I’m honestly impressed
Just realized no one commented on kids writing checks
Since when do kids have CHECKING accounts??
