Makes me feel old to realize that Led Zeppelin is classical music.

Lots of music pre-1960 is considered classical. Something just special about the music of one’s early years.

Once at work a young co-worker heard a Beatles song playing and commented, “The Beatles! Just think, thirty years later people are still listening to their music!”

I replied, “Johann Sebastian Bach! Just think, three hundred years later people are still listening to his music!”

He allowed as how I had a point.

This must be a “classic” strip, it’s been a long time since music stores were big enough to have an “upstairs”!

Discount Records in Chicago once had three floors of merchandise. It seemed as if overnight they switched from classical records on the Third Floor to a very meager selection of compact discs. I was flabbergasted and disappointed, because CD players were fairly new on the market and I didn’t yet have one.

One elderly couple seemed disgusted. The woman commented loudly, “It’s called ‘Discount Records’ but they don’t have any d@mned records!”

If you really want some old Classics, ask for the Yardbirds!

Stuff my kids listened to in HS in the 90s are now oldies. I still think of them as current.

A couple of years ago, my Old-Time radio show (thirties through early sixties comedies, dramas, and varieties) closed by playing Layla, which was #1 in 1972 and mentioned that 1972 was fifty years ago. I never looked at it that way!

The neighbour’s kids ( all teens) come over to my place to listen to Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, The Beatles, etc. They can spend hours in my music room listening to rock classics.

In my mid to late 70’s it was discovered, soft rock like the Eagles, Chicago, etc., plus hard rock. We had everything in the 70’s. It was a great Era.

Ah yes, I remember Tower Records in Sacramento and San Francisco. Large record store that was famous for its inventory.
