Gil Thorp by Henry Barajas and Rod Whigham for October 25, 2022

Does Barajas have any idea how such drills are actually run? At least it has nothing to do with those I’ve seen/heard. (Or the ones where it wasn’t a drill my kids went through, although they turned out to be mostly false alarms – the guy swinging a sword did injure someone.)

Heard over the loudspeaker of one of the Pearl Harbor battleships on December 7, 1941 as the sirens were blaring — “This aint no fu___in drill”. Let’s hope this is not a Tech prank.

Gotta say while the plots are getting better (note there are no sports). They are also getting political. Barajas is from North Hollywood CA. I believe T his is his shot at gun control. Rest assured, this is NOTHING like how these drills are run. Heck Activer shooter drills on military bases aren’t like this.

I couldn’t change the dialog on today’s for levity, so today’s Mopped Up Thorp will be an unrelated new episode of Sign Man and Fistpump Man.

How long since the last football game? Do we know the starting lineup on offense? Defense? Teen angst is what drives this comic, but Milford sports is the heartbeat that pumps the blood.

P2 Thing makes an obligatory appearance when the SWAT unit officer demands a show of hands. Thing then takes the whole eerie scene to a deeper, disturbing level by conveniently touching the shoulder of the young female student who is obviously traumatized and emotionally affected by the drill.

@henryjbarajas, may I ask a question? Why are you throwing all these “current issues” at readers, yet not staying on any one of them long enough to evolve into a real plot point before throwing another one at us? I’d be good with a strip that addresses some of these issues… if only it did. But so far it’s just tease and run away to something else.

The lesson I’ve learned today is that the football team’s shot at third place in the Valley Conference isn’t happening either.

It’s probably one of those police idiots who showed up with magazines locked and loaded and no blank adapters on the muzzles of their weapons.

Meanwhile, in Downtown Milford, Antifa has set 5 stores on fire, while un-vetted Afghani’s are assaulting elderly women, and used Hypodermic Needles have stabbed seven beloved pets. The Homeless community has glued itself to the doors of the Library, and BLM is looting all the Sporting Goods & Jewelry Stores. Well, that should move things ahead about 8 months.

We have now moved from a sports comic strip to to one of social commentary. Divorce, abortion, school shootings etc. I can see all these on the news, please go back to a sports comic strip.

When we’ve had active shooter training at work one of the subjects addressed is anyone being a permit holder & carrying, if & when to engage the shooter.

I guess a writer has every right to take over an existing comic strip. In this case I wish he had chosen the comic “Henry”.

ICYMI: henryjbarajas 4 days agoThe next week will be based on real, messed-up mass shooter drills happening in classrooms around the U.S. These drills are traumatizing for the children and faculty. Please watch, but viewer discretion is advised. https://youtu.be/aRHcbJ9DHEg

Oh wow! GoComics is now indenting replies under the original comment instead of just putting @-username where you sometimes have to search and guess which the original comment was. About time the comment section joined modern times!
