I was curious to see if any newspapers actually carried Varvel’s cartoons so I googled it. None do that I could see (surprise) but I did learn from Wikipedia, his former paper the Indianapolis Star, had to apologize for and eventually pull one of his cartoons that was criticized as being racist. Another time, again according to Wikipedia, the Star had to apologize for a cartoon that was viewed as being demeaning to women and sexual assault victims. So today’s cartoon shows personal growth compared to those! Maybe? Sort of? (Good thing GoComics never feels the need to apologize for anything)

University of Washington political science professor Scott Lemieux noted that the conservative justices issued their “absolutely indefensible” ruling while working from home “because it’s not safe from them to go into work.”

The only principle behind the decision, Lemieux said, “is the belief of the Republican appointees to the Court that prisoners are subhuman and extraordinary measures need to be taken to expose as many of them to a deadly virus as possible.”

The majority did not provide a reason for their ruling.

Trump has inspired the white supremacists to come out in the open. Several Boogaloo Bois have been arrested and the ads on social media claiming to be recruiting Antifa for violence have been tied back to white supremacist groups. There has been a drastic rise in domestic violence tied back to white supremacists.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Thursday evening condemned the actions of rioters who attempted to set fire to a police precinct and blocked the exits while officers were inside.“When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder," Wheeler said in a news conference with Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell.

A riot was declared Wednesday evening when agitators descended upon the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct building, spray-painted over security cameras, broke a glass door with a 2×4, lit a fire using an accelerant and threw fireworks and other objects at officers, according to FOX 12 in Portland.

Police said that a truck also attempted to run over officers.

The front doors of the precinct were barricaded before the fire was started with more than 20 officers and civilian employees inside, police said, according to FOX 12.

Officers used tear gas to disperse the rioters and at least eight people were arrested. A federal court order bars police from using tear gas unless a riot is declared.

“I believe that city staff could have died last night,” Wheeler said. “I cannot and I will not tolerate that. This is not peaceful protests. This is not advocacy to advance reforms.”
